What do you make of all this drama with the WNBA right now?
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, man.
Mike Lindstrom:I knew you were gonna ask about the WNBA.
Mike Lindstrom:I knew it.
Mike Lindstrom:The first filter is white privilege.
Mike Lindstrom:That just struck me wrong.
Mike Lindstrom:And the fact that now she's trying to backtrack
Scott Leese:She said that's not really what she meant by it, but then she
Scott Leese:never explained what she did mean by it.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:That's what I have a problem with.
Scott Leese:You wanna say that's not what you meant.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Well, if you want me to remain curious and try to, hear your perspective, give
Scott Leese:me your perspective, because all you did was say, "That's not what I meant.
Scott Leese:It's about something else, something deeper" And I'm
Scott Leese:like, "What's the deeper thing?
Scott Leese:Of course, that's what you meant.
Mike Lindstrom:And this is the part where I know guys like me, 53-year-old white
Mike Lindstrom:guy that's gonna say this on a podcast where people are gonna say, Oh, okay.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't care what race it is.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:If Caitlin goes in there and says, "Oh, Black privilege,"
Mike Lindstrom:during a game, can you imagine?
Mike Lindstrom:Mm. Or anybody for that matter
Mike Lindstrom:Intro Band: Lean in closer. This is your time.
Mike Lindstrom:Hit record on your crooked
Mike Lindstrom:life. What's your story?
Mike Lindstrom:(Hey!) Say the words out loud!
Mike Lindstrom:Mike & Scott gonna crack that crowd.
Mike Lindstrom:What's your story? (Hey!) Turn it up, let's go!
Mike Lindstrom:Every voice. Every scar.
Mike Lindstrom:Every road. What's your story?
Mike Lindstrom:Mike and Scott.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's talk.
Mike Lindstrom:Welcome back, Mike Lindstrom, my man, Scott Leese, "What's Your Story?" hey,
Mike Lindstrom:by the way, we're mixing it up today.
Mike Lindstrom:We're pretty pumped, people tell us all the time, Scott, what about you guys?
Mike Lindstrom:What are you guys about?
Mike Lindstrom:What do you guys think?
Mike Lindstrom:What do you believe?
Mike Lindstrom:What are your favorite type of things?
Mike Lindstrom:So we though we'd mix it up a little bit today.
Mike Lindstrom:We didn't really share notes with each other.
Mike Lindstrom:We're kinda playing a little game here.
Mike Lindstrom:Like I got my notes, you got your notes.
Mike Lindstrom:And we've done this before, by the way.
Mike Lindstrom:When we first started this before
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Yeah, a long time ago.
Mike Lindstrom:…trial runs, we did these virtually where we got to
Mike Lindstrom:know each other at a deeper level, even know each other for 20 years.
Mike Lindstrom:So we're gonna act like we really haven't and start to get
Mike Lindstrom:a little deeper with each other.
Mike Lindstrom:So I'll let you start.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:So you get to ask me whatever the hell you want.
Mike Lindstrom:It could be a question, it could be a curiosity, it could be a
Mike Lindstrom:rapid fire, it could be a rating.
Mike Lindstrom:I've got kind of the things I wanna make sure I hit, because I know who you are.
Mike Lindstrom:And I'm not gonna embarrass you, I promise you.
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing] but we try to play in each other's sweet spots.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna ask him questions that are completely out of his specialty,
Mike Lindstrom:but they're life principles and fun things that we could do.
Mike Lindstrom:So I'm gonna let you kick it off.
Mike Lindstrom:There's no rules here.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Every, anything's on, everything's fair game?
Scott Leese:Everything's fair game.
Mike Lindstrom:So there's no
Mike Lindstrom:- Alright.
Mike Lindstrom:…no cutting things off.
Mike Lindstrom:You have to answer every question.
Mike Lindstrom:That's the rule.
Scott Leese:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay, let's go.
Scott Leese:I'ma
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: I'm in.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna start by
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: …I'm putting my notes down.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna start by teasing you a little bit.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go.
Scott Leese:You're a corporate guy.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna call you a corporate guy.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go.
Mike Lindstrom:I'll play that guy.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:I got five corporate buzzwords for you.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go.
Scott Leese:I want you to rate them S, A, B, C, D, F, whatever.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, I, yeah, like everyone does on social media, right?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:S is the highest.
Mike Lindstrom:F is like failure.
Scott Leese:Yeah, F is the worst.
Scott Leese:Somebody, I got five terms and you could tell me whether you like them, hate them.
Scott Leese:Ready?
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna look right in the camera so
Mike Lindstrom:you can't even see me flinch.
Mike Lindstrom:You ready?
Scott Leese:Rate these corporate buzzwords.
Scott Leese:Go.
Scott Leese:" Synergy."
Mike Lindstrom:C. And "synergy" is not a bad word.
Mike Lindstrom:It's overused, but I do like it because I think there's a time and a place when
Mike Lindstrom:you do genuinely need to have synergy.
Mike Lindstrom:So it's not supreme, but it's definitely not a failure.
Scott Leese:Okay, okay.
Scott Leese:" Bandwidth" . [laughing] F.
Mike Lindstrom:F
Scott Leese:He hates "bandwidth".
Mike Lindstrom:I hate bandwidth.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a 1999 2000 dot com.
Mike Lindstrom:Remember I'm a dot com guy.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:People always used to say "bandwidth" and "double-click" and "drill
Mike Lindstrom:down" and those are on my F list forever.
Scott Leese:[laughing] I love that.
Scott Leese:[laughing] Okay.
Scott Leese:What about "growth mindset?"
Mike Lindstrom:B. Not A. I like "growth mindset" because there's "fixed mindset"
Mike Lindstrom:and there's "growth mindset." So I'd be, remiss if I said that's a failure.
Mike Lindstrom:But I think, again, it's starting to get into that word that's more
Mike Lindstrom:overused and I would, blame social media for that because I think a lot
Mike Lindstrom:of social media people don't know what it means are using it in the wrong way.
Scott Leese:Right.
Mike Lindstrom:But I'll give it a B.
Scott Leese:I got two more.
Mike Lindstrom:Go.
Scott Leese:"Circle back."
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, D. it's not in double click and bandwidth
Mike Lindstrom:because that's def F forever.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a D category I actually coach all my account managers and salespeople.
Mike Lindstrom:There's three things you can't say.
Mike Lindstrom:"Circle back," "follow up," and "checking in."
Scott Leese:Yeah, "just checking in".
Mike Lindstrom:Those three words or phrases or language
Mike Lindstrom:patterns are off-limits
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:…with all of my clients.
Mike Lindstrom:You have to find three new ways to say those things, so I'll give it a D.
Scott Leese:Last corporate buzzword/phrase for you.
Scott Leese:"Move fast and break things."
Mike Lindstrom:I'll give it an A. I like that one.
Scott Leese:You like that the corporate guy likes the startup mantra.
Mike Lindstrom:I like that.
Mike Lindstrom:I do.
Mike Lindstrom:I do like that one.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't think that one's gonna really go anywhere, man.
Mike Lindstrom:It's because
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: It's gonna stay.
Mike Lindstrom:…it's got relevance in tech, it's got relevance in startup,
Mike Lindstrom:it's got relevance like corporate guy, if you're gonna put me in corporate, a lot of
Mike Lindstrom:people in corporate don't know that one.
Mike Lindstrom:That's more like a
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: It's a startup thing.
Mike Lindstrom:That's right.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:But if we can bring that one over into that
Mike Lindstrom:world, I think it's a good hit.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, what else you got?
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:You got a few and then I, then I get a few.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Blindly rank one through five.
Mike Lindstrom:Blindly ranked one through five.
Mike Lindstrom:So you're gonna give me five things.
Scott Leese:I'll give you five things you're gonna say this
Scott Leese:is a four, this is a three.
Scott Leese:But you don't know what's coming, you don't know what they are.
Mike Lindstrom:Shoot.
Scott Leese:Rate these
Mike Lindstrom:Can I reorder them or no?
Mike Lindstrom:After the fact?
Scott Leese:No, you can't reorder them after the fact.
Scott Leese:That's the whole point of the blind rating.
Mike Lindstrom:No, let's go.
Scott Leese:Rate these platforms for B2B thought leadership.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:In 2026 and beyond.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go.
Scott Leese:Not historical, 2026 and beyond.
Scott Leese:Ready?
Scott Leese:YouTube.
Mike Lindstrom:A, that's an A.
Scott Leese:No, no, no.
Scott Leese:One, two, three, four, five.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh,
Mike Lindstrom:sorry, one.
Mike Lindstrom:Sorry, my bad, my bad.
Mike Lindstrom:What's, that's, that's a number one.
Scott Leese:YouTube, number one.
Mike Lindstrom:That's number one.
Mike Lindstrom:Because it's YouTube, it's Google, it's… We're on that space.
Mike Lindstrom:That's what we've been trying to lean in.
Mike Lindstrom:I'd be incongruent not only as a corporate guy, but as a podcaster
Mike Lindstrom:because that's something that it's been that, that fish that's always gotten
Mike Lindstrom:away from me, us, for a long time.
Mike Lindstrom:But if you can get to that spot and really own it, there's money to be made.
Mike Lindstrom:You have bigger influence, short form, long form.
Mike Lindstrom:Google, YouTube's not going anywhere.
Mike Lindstrom:It's number one.
Scott Leese:Wow.
Scott Leese:That's the one that I have the, that's the one I have the
Scott Leese:least amount of followers on.
Scott Leese:It sucks.
Mike Lindstrom:And it's hard, it's the hardest nut to
Scott Leese:Crack.
Scott Leese:It's a hard nut to crack.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:You and me both.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:YouTube, that was number one.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:LinkedIn.
Mike Lindstrom:Ooh, you know where I stand on LinkedIn.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't know what you have coming, but I'm gonna put the set of four
Mike Lindstrom:because I think there could be other things might be below it.
Mike Lindstrom:LinkedIn is one of those things that's changed quite a bit over the
Mike Lindstrom:last, especially the last five years.
Mike Lindstrom:When I got on LinkedIn, it was a whole different ballgame.
Mike Lindstrom:People would connect with you.
Mike Lindstrom:There were networking.
Mike Lindstrom:Now it's all showmanship, showwomanship.
Mike Lindstrom:You're trying to prove… It's basically become modern day Facebook
Mike Lindstrom:in a way that you're trying to… It's like check me out, check me out.
Mike Lindstrom:People aren't really following the strategy, so I'm gonna
Mike Lindstrom:put it at the four spot.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:TikTok.
Mike Lindstrom:TikTok.
Scott Leese:For B2B though leadership.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:TikTok, it's probably number five because most people that are in our space
Mike Lindstrom:that, that are not really on TikTok, I look at my own clients, for example.
Mike Lindstrom:Most of them don't even have an account.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:We've got slot two and slot three left.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, let's go.
Mike Lindstrom:I feel safe.
Mike Lindstrom:I feel good.
Scott Leese:X/Twitter.
Mike Lindstrom:Twitter.
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing] Oh, man.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm wondering what you got next coming.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna have to put that one at a three.
Mike Lindstrom:Because people are still on it.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's be real.
Mike Lindstrom:I mean, I was on Twitter for a long time and did very well.
Mike Lindstrom:I got my, followership really up, then kinda left it for
Mike Lindstrom:a while for many reasons.
Mike Lindstrom:But people are still on it.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:People still are on it.
Mike Lindstrom:I see some of my CEOs still, pontificating on there, which I'm like, "Wow, you're
Mike Lindstrom:not really on LinkedIn, but I went over to this Twitter universe and
Mike Lindstrom:you're pretty active over there."
Scott Leese:They're everywhere there.
Mike Lindstrom:On Twitter.
Mike Lindstrom:So they're, people are there and they're getting topical
Mike Lindstrom:things and they're going there.
Mike Lindstrom:I think that's a three.
Scott Leese:Last one is Instagram.
Mike Lindstrom:It's two.
Mike Lindstrom:I think that's, I think that's a good, that's a good number.
Mike Lindstrom:I mean, one, two
Scott Leese:It's not a bad, not a bad list.
Mike Lindstrom:You and I would be completely BSing because Instagram's
Mike Lindstrom:something we both pushed all
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:…last year.
Scott Leese:You did pretty good.
Mike Lindstrom:And we're doing good.
Mike Lindstrom:I'd say that's a two.
Scott Leese:You did pretty good.
Scott Leese:I don't like the fact that you put YouTube one and that's my worst one.
Mike Lindstrom:But you and I are in the same boat, so we have to work on it.
Scott Leese:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Last one of these.
Scott Leese:One through five blind ranking again.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:I like this.
Scott Leese:I like
Mike Lindstrom:You like the blind ranking?
Scott Leese:I, I like you not having an idea where I'm going.
Mike Lindstrom:Dang it.
Scott Leese:Rate these ways that people fake it in business.
Scott Leese:Number one meaning this one pisses you off the most.
Mike Lindstrom:The most.
Mike Lindstrom:Douchebag.
Mike Lindstrom:It's douchebag category.
Mike Lindstrom:Number
Scott Leese:Douchebag meter.
Scott Leese:Number one is the most.
Scott Leese:Number five is the least.
Mike Lindstrom:Least douchiest.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Ways people fake it in business.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm in.
Scott Leese:Stage candid photos for content.
Mike Lindstrom:Staged?
Scott Leese:Performative photo.
Scott Leese:You know the ones I'm talking about.
Mike Lindstrom:I do.
Mike Lindstrom:I do.
Scott Leese:We can't really do them.
Mike Lindstrom:I know.
Mike Lindstrom:It's so douchey, but it's in the middle of it.
Mike Lindstrom:I think it's three.
Mike Lindstrom:I give it three.
Scott Leese:Right in the middle.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Because I can see certain situations where it's appropriate, even
Mike Lindstrom:though it's not one of my favorite.
Mike Lindstrom:That still drives me nuts when I still see my teenagers doing selfies.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I think selfies are nuts, but I understand it.
Mike Lindstrom:I, every once in awhile, you don't have any around, you do a selfie.
Mike Lindstrom:So I'm gonna put it right in the safe spot of a three.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Fake urgency in sales emails in particular.
Mike Lindstrom:Fake urgency?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Ooh.
Mike Lindstrom:[chuckles] I use that one, man.
Mike Lindstrom:It's not too douchey, because I think that's a good strategy.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna put that lower on the list.
Mike Lindstrom:That's not… I think that's a four.
Scott Leese:Four.
Scott Leese:Do you think there's one that'll be
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, I think there is
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Less douchey.
Mike Lindstrom:…because I do use I'll, I use time - the calendar.
Mike Lindstrom:I would say use the calendar to your advantage.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:So I teach it.
Mike Lindstrom:I preach it.
Mike Lindstrom:I gotta stand behind.
Scott Leese:Number three and four are gone.
Scott Leese:You got number one, two and five.
Scott Leese:All right.
Scott Leese:Inflated LinkedIn job title.
Mike Lindstrom:That's pretty douchey.
Mike Lindstrom:Motivator, creator of the compellingness to motivate the world.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I, I still have two.
Scott Leese:Number one, number two, and five.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna give that a two.
Scott Leese:Number two.
Mike Lindstrom:I give that a two.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:It's got a little bit of that scratch board
Mike Lindstrom:on the board when I see it.
Mike Lindstrom:I would hope by now people have learned to get back to authenticity
Mike Lindstrom:and use some of your titles to try to create some compelling statement.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gonna go two.
Scott Leese:Thought leader with no results to back it up.
Scott Leese:Self-declared though leader maybe is a better way to phrase it.
Mike Lindstrom:I, it drives me nuts.
Mike Lindstrom:But the reality, but that's a reality.
Mike Lindstrom:I watch social media.
Mike Lindstrom:I've ex I think it's super douchey, but I've come to learn to accept it because
Mike Lindstrom:I've learned how to weed through it.
Mike Lindstrom:So I'm gonna put that, I'm gonna have to give it a five.
Scott Leese:You're gonna give it a five.
Mike Lindstrom:I have to give it a five.
Scott Leese:The last one, your most douchey one.
Mike Lindstrom:Yep.
Scott Leese:Buying followers and engagement.
Mike Lindstrom:That, that, perfect.
Scott Leese:That's pretty good.
Mike Lindstrom:That's perfect.
Mike Lindstrom:Buying followers.
Scott Leese:Fake.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I mean,
Scott Leese:That's
Mike Lindstrom:I,
Scott Leese:You know
Mike Lindstrom:100% I mean, but that's all
Scott Leese:People do this.
Mike Lindstrom:But people don't know what they're looking for.
Mike Lindstrom:I mean, we
Scott Leese:People do this.
Mike Lindstrom:…killer post out there every once in a while and
Mike Lindstrom:you'll see, oh, that's not an account.
Mike Lindstrom:That's not… these are people that are following us, but there's bots out there
Mike Lindstrom:in the world that people pay for to have them go out there and act on their behalf.
Scott Leese:Everybody sees those accounts that have 500,000 followers
Scott Leese:and they make a post and they get like two pieces of engagement.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:It's like that's all, that's all.
Scott Leese:He bought that.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You bought that.
Mike Lindstrom:So give me one more.
Scott Leese:You want one more?
Mike Lindstrom:One more and then we're good.
Mike Lindstrom:That'll be three total?
Scott Leese:That was three total.
Scott Leese:That was three already.
Mike Lindstrom:That's three already?
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Scott Leese:You want one more?
Mike Lindstrom:No.
Scott Leese:Oh, okay.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go with someone.
Mike Lindstrom:Let's go with
Scott Leese:I'm nervous.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Now this, let's go a little
Scott Leese:I'm nervous now.
Mike Lindstrom:We're gonna go blind on you then
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Since you're pulling this whole blind one to five thing.
Mike Lindstrom:So one is the high, great, awesome thing.
Mike Lindstrom:So one is awesome.
Scott Leese:One is I like it.
Mike Lindstrom:Five sucks.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:So the question is, so you get… I'm gonna give you five.
Mike Lindstrom:You don't know what's coming.
Mike Lindstrom:Rate these ways to spend a Saturday with no obligation.
Mike Lindstrom:You ready?
Scott Leese:I'm not even sure I know what that's like, but yes.
Mike Lindstrom:I know.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:So number one, the first thing I'm gonna mention, you have to rank these.
Mike Lindstrom:Sleeping in past 10 AM.
Scott Leese:Five.
Scott Leese:That's impossible for me.
Scott Leese:I can't do it.
Mike Lindstrom:That was fast.
Scott Leese:I can't sleep in past 10:0 AM.
Scott Leese:I'm 49 years old.
Scott Leese:[laughing] It doesn't happen.
Mike Lindstrom:You gotta get up and go pee in middle of the night, right?
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing]
Scott Leese:That's impossi- that one's impossible.
Scott Leese:That's number five.
Scott Leese:[laughing]
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Fair enough.
Mike Lindstrom:Fair enough.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Golf.
Scott Leese:Oh, number one, probably.
Mike Lindstrom:Number one?
Scott Leese:I don't know what else is coming.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go straight to the top already.
Scott Leese:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:You, you're
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: No obligations.
Mike Lindstrom:You're proclaiming it.
Scott Leese:I would love, I would love to go with my, with my kids or my friends.
Scott Leese:Get outside in nature, beautiful views.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Fair enough.
Mike Lindstrom:Fair enough.
Scott Leese:Yeah, that's number one.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Watching football day or some other sport all day.
Mike Lindstrom:Just sitting there and camped out watching sports all day.
Scott Leese:I'm not gonna lie.
Scott Leese:I could do this still.
Mike Lindstrom:Really?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Depending on the sport
Mike Lindstrom:Buffalo Bills.
Scott Leese:I miss zero Post game.
Scott Leese:I miss zero Buffalo Bills games.
Scott Leese:I miss zero Liverpool matches.
Scott Leese:So I'm gonna put number two.
Scott Leese:Number two at the top.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:[chuckles]
Scott Leese:I've got three and four left.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Uh-oh, this is funny.
Mike Lindstrom:Working out, then brunch.
Scott Leese:No, that's four.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, no go.
Scott Leese:That's four.
Scott Leese:I don't wanna work out and then go eat.
Mike Lindstrom:No?
Scott Leese:No.
Scott Leese:That doesn't
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: You gotta, you gotta earn your
Scott Leese:- Scott Leese: That doesn't do it for me.
Mike Lindstrom:You gotta earn your drinks.
Mike Lindstrom:You gotta earn your food.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go work out and then I'm gonna
Scott Leese:go undo everything I just did.
Mike Lindstrom:That's the point.
Scott Leese:That's not what I do.
Mike Lindstrom:You go burn 400 calories so you can go put four
Scott Leese:I don't like
Mike Lindstrom:That's a thing.
Mike Lindstrom:You know that sort of thing, right?
Scott Leese:I don't know that's a thing.
Mike Lindstrom:Earn your beer, that's a thing.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a phrase people use.
Scott Leese:Earn your people.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, four.
Scott Leese:Four.
Mike Lindstrom:Getting stuff done around the house.
Scott Leese:That's, that, that's a three.
Scott Leese:I, I actually like my list.
Mike Lindstrom:I like your
Scott Leese:That honest, my list is very much me.
Mike Lindstrom:That
Scott Leese:I like doing stuff around the house.
Scott Leese:I give myself a little honey-do list and I really enjoy crossing things off the list.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:We'll stick to the one to five thing again.
Scott Leese:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:So the, we're gonna go, one high, five low.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Same format.
Mike Lindstrom:So rate these travel styles.
Scott Leese:Travel style.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:However you travel.
Mike Lindstrom:Could be with partner, it could be friends, could be
Mike Lindstrom:with your kids, doesn't matter.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:It's how you think of it.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:All-inclusive resort.
Scott Leese:Five.
Scott Leese:My brother does this with his family.
Scott Leese:He loves it.
Scott Leese:He loves the all-inclusive resort.
Scott Leese:Everything's taken care of.
Scott Leese:Drop the kids off.
Scott Leese:They're entertained.
Scott Leese:I'm entertained.
Scott Leese:I don't wanna travel that way.
Mike Lindstrom:Really?
Scott Leese:I don't.
Scott Leese:No.
Scott Leese:I wanna go
Mike Lindstrom:No unlimited food, unlimited drinks, no?
Scott Leese:No.
Mike Lindstrom:No,
Scott Leese:It's not me.
Mike Lindstrom:Sport wristband, go up there.
Scott Leese:It's not me.
Scott Leese:I, I don't wanna be, I don't wanna just dump my kids off at the daycare and like
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, I gotcha.
Scott Leese:Eat all…
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah,
Scott Leese:Unlimited food, but it's like buffet food.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:It's like an unlimited Denny's level quality.
Scott Leese:No, I, I don't… I'm, I'm not an all, I'm not an all-inclusive guy.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm gona throw a curveball at you at the end on this one, bro.
Scott Leese:I don't know what's coming.
Scott Leese:I'm not an all inclusive guy.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm throwing a curveball.
Scott Leese:I like to travel differently.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm adding to this one.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Scott Leese:Also, the places I go that I like to go are,
Scott Leese:don't even have all-inclusives.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay, you ready for the second one?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Backpacking with no itinerary.
Scott Leese:Now I've done this, but I was also, 19
Mike Lindstrom:20.
Scott Leese:20 years old.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna say two.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:Because I like the spontaneity of it.
Scott Leese:I like the idea of not really having a plan.
Scott Leese:I don't need much luggage, so I can still fit everything I need in a backpack.
Scott Leese:I don't really wanna walk 100 miles wearing this backpack, but
Scott Leese:that wasn't part of the equation.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go two.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Scott Leese:I could, I could do that one.
Mike Lindstrom:I could see that one.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Business trip, both on vacation.
Mike Lindstrom:You and I have done that move a million times.
Scott Leese:Oh.
Mike Lindstrom:Both business trip, both on vacation, either before or after.
Scott Leese:I don't wanna go number one because business and
Scott Leese:travel is not, it's not my ideal.
Scott Leese:I would go, I'll go number three.
Scott Leese:I'll go number three.
Scott Leese:I'm a big fan of this.
Scott Leese:I've run the Surf and Sales Summit for eight plus years.
Scott Leese:It often backs up against Thanksgiving, so I go run a couple week-long,
Scott Leese:events and I'm already out there.
Scott Leese:I stay out there, bring the kids out for Thanksgiving.
Scott Leese:That's the pro move.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, it's a pro move.
Mike Lindstrom:Hey, didn't something happen last year where you went to, uh, last
Mike Lindstrom:one, you got stuck somewhere.
Scott Leese:That was
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Cause you were able to really bolt it on it.
Scott Leese:Yeah, that was, two years ago, I think.
Scott Leese:Flew down to Costa Rica and they had this, unseasonable amount of rain
Scott Leese:and the airport got flooded and all these people were supposed to come in.
Scott Leese:They couldn't make it.
Scott Leese:We were, like, triaged.
Scott Leese:It was… I was like a, what do you call it?
Scott Leese:Like a travel agent.
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing]
Scott Leese:My partners and I, Jeff and Richard, we were all
Scott Leese:on the phone with somebody here and trying to coordinate them.
Scott Leese:And actually, like, half the crew never even got to make it out.
Mike Lindstrom:Wow.
Scott Leese:Because the coast, the airport in Liberia and
Scott Leese:Costa Rica got washed out, and all the roads got washed out.
Scott Leese:It was a mess.
Mike Lindstrom:How many more days did you stay there that you didn't plan on?
Scott Leese:At least six.
Scott Leese:It was about a week.
Mike Lindstrom:I remember you were down there.
Scott Leese:I think it was about a week extra.
Scott Leese:I couldn't leave.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Couldn't go no nowhere.
Scott Leese:Yeah, all the stores were closed.
Scott Leese:One day, I think I told you that I, ate nothing but, a power bar
Scott Leese:the whole day because nothing was open, no grocery store, nothing.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:I had this one thing in my backpack, that's
Scott Leese:all I had survived on that day.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I remember you sent me some cool pictures of some stuff you guys were doing.
Mike Lindstrom:That looked fun.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Surfing.
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Scott Leese:[laughing]
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Road trip.
Scott Leese:Oh, I think the only one I have left is number one, right?
Mike Lindstrom:No, we got one, two, three.
Scott Leese:Oh, I have a four and a one left.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Road trip.
Scott Leese:Damn.
Mike Lindstrom:You're screwed, man.
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing]
Scott Leese:Oh, I might have boxed myself in.
Mike Lindstrom:[laughing]
Scott Leese:Your reaction is telling me I should put road trip number one.
Scott Leese:I'll, I'll go number one on a road trip.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Scott Leese:Surf trip, road trip.
Mike Lindstrom:Man, this is a tough one.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Scott Leese:This is going in at slot number four for me.
Scott Leese:What is it?
Mike Lindstrom:Cruise.
Scott Leese:Oh, God.
Scott Leese:[laughing] Cruise would be five.
Scott Leese:I wanna switch.
Scott Leese:I don't wanna be on a boat.
Scott Leese:[laughing] Give me the all-inclusive over the boat.
Scott Leese:[laughing] All, I, I… Oh.
Mike Lindstrom:What's the difference?
Mike Lindstrom:You… It's all inclusive on the water.
Scott Leese:I don't wanna be on the water.
Scott Leese:It's seasickness.
Mike Lindstrom:I got a funny story for you.
Scott Leese:Oh.
Mike Lindstrom:Do you remember the Costa Concordia, the, the Italian
Mike Lindstrom:cruise line that went sideways?
Scott Leese:No.
Mike Lindstrom:It's a horrible story.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, it was the Italian cruise line, the blue & white Concordia.
Mike Lindstrom:It happened.
Mike Lindstrom:The captain
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: I'm blanking on this.
Mike Lindstrom:…said, left the ship early.
Mike Lindstrom:This is about five, six years ago.
Scott Leese:Wow.
Mike Lindstrom:There's a Netflix documentary on this.
Mike Lindstrom:It's Italian cruise line.
Mike Lindstrom:Monica and I were on the same boat, same exact boat.
Scott Leese:Really?
Mike Lindstrom:Same exact cruise that goes up and down Italy for
Mike Lindstrom:three days, three years before that boat went upside down.
Scott Leese:Damn.
Mike Lindstrom:There was no… it's crazy watching the documentary.
Mike Lindstrom:I recognize some of the, entertainers in there.
Mike Lindstrom:I had such a good time, but this was before kids.
Mike Lindstrom:I could see the land off of the distance because it literally ran aground.
Mike Lindstrom:It wasn't like it went down at sea.
Mike Lindstrom:They were along the side of Italy.
Mike Lindstrom:People could swim, over to the shoreline, legit.
Mike Lindstrom:You put me on the middle of the Pacific Ocean or forget about it.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Forget about it.
Mike Lindstrom:I've seen those other horror shows where the
Scott Leese:Ah.
Mike Lindstrom:Can you imagine?
Scott Leese:I've been on a cruise twice.
Scott Leese:I, and both of them were work related.
Scott Leese:I won a cruise through a sales contest, and I said, "I'm, I'm never again."
Mike Lindstrom:Pass.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, you got one more.
Mike Lindstrom:You ready?
Scott Leese:One more I'm ready.
Mike Lindstrom:Big one.
Mike Lindstrom:Rate these ways people show off their wealth.
Mike Lindstrom:Rate the ways that people… So think about what I might be asking here.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Ready?
Mike Lindstrom:Watches.
Scott Leese:In ter- so number one being
Mike Lindstrom:Like a great way.
Scott Leese:The best way to show it off?
Mike Lindstrom:A great way to show off your wealth would be your watch,
Scott Leese:Right?
Scott Leese:[grumbles]
Mike Lindstrom:Or is that the worst way?
Scott Leese:Five.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go worse.
Mike Lindstrom:You're gonna go five?
Scott Leese:Yeah, but I think it's… I think if I was extremely
Scott Leese:wealthy and I spent an absurd amount of money on a watch, that's, that's
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:That's a waste to me.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm, I'm with you on that.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm with you on that.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go five.
Mike Lindstrom:All right.
Mike Lindstrom:Cars.
Scott Leese:I'm not a huge car guy, so I'd probably go four.
Scott Leese:If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'm not going and buying a Lamborghini
Scott Leese:or a Ferrari or anything like that.
Scott Leese:I'd probably get, a little surf wagon that I could dump a bunch of surfboards in,
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:A little beat up some kind of truck for that stuff.
Scott Leese:Fun, maybe one kind of funnish car.
Mike Lindstrom:There is a guy
Scott Leese:I go four.
Mike Lindstrom:If there's, if this guy's out there, I'm calling you out.
Mike Lindstrom:This guy drives an orange Lamborghini
Scott Leese:Here in Scottsdale.
Mike Lindstrom:In Scottsdale.
Mike Lindstrom:He pulls it up to Fashion Square, the big mall here, at
Mike Lindstrom:valet, every single Saturday.
Mike Lindstrom:I know this because people have told me.
Mike Lindstrom:I've only seen him, once or twice around town.
Mike Lindstrom:He revs his engine.
Mike Lindstrom:He comes out, he has a $100 bill, very obviously in front
Mike Lindstrom:of everybody, to the valet guy.
Mike Lindstrom:He's super douchey, if you saw him.
Mike Lindstrom:No, again, what's my rule number one?
Mike Lindstrom:Don't judge, be curious.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:So I'm curious about the guy.
Mike Lindstrom:I wanna know what he does, what the hell makes him thinks he's cool.
Mike Lindstrom:Goes in.
Mike Lindstrom:I have no idea what he does and does this every Saturday.
Scott Leese:Damn.
Mike Lindstrom:Orange Lamborghini.
Scott Leese:What is he doing in the
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: That's the highest level of
Scott Leese:- Scott Leese: Why would you go to the mall?
Mike Lindstrom:I don't… To show off.
Scott Leese:Every Saturday.
Scott Leese:But why go to the mall to show off?
Mike Lindstrom:You're showing off your wealth.
Mike Lindstrom:Dude, I don't know.
Scott Leese:That's a strange place to show off.
Mike Lindstrom:Number… The third one, real estate.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, real estate.
Mike Lindstrom:Your home, your investments, your
Mike Lindstrom:second home, your lake house.
Scott Leese:You know?
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go two.
Mike Lindstrom:Two.
Scott Leese:I'm gonna go two.
Scott Leese:If you came up to me and you were like, "Scott, I got a beach house
Scott Leese:here. I got a lake house here. I got a mountain house here." I'm not gonna lie.
Scott Leese:I'd be pretty impressed, I think.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:It, it kinda puts you in a different category.
Scott Leese:I kinda like it.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm with you on that.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Ooh.
Mike Lindstrom:PJ, private jet.
Scott Leese:That's gotta be number one.
Mike Lindstrom:Whoo.
Scott Leese:That's gotta be number one.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a flex.
Scott Leese:Yeah, that's a flex, man.
Mike Lindstrom:A PJ, man.
Scott Leese:I don't have to deal with TSA and, the same
Scott Leese:amount of delays and everything.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah, that's pretty
Scott Leese:Do whatever I want in that plane.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a tough one then.
Mike Lindstrom:The last one here I'm gonna throw at you, just not showing it at all.
Mike Lindstrom:Just be humble.
Scott Leese:That went right in the middle.
Mike Lindstrom:Right there?
Scott Leese:Right in the middle.
Mike Lindstrom:That's pretty good.
Scott Leese:Right in the middle.
Scott Leese:I know of a guy
Mike Lindstrom:Do you?…
Scott Leese:Who is worth an absurd amount of money.
Scott Leese:And he wears, the most old jeans, t-shirts, drives this, beat up car.
Scott Leese:You would absolutely never know he has any money whatsoever.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:To the point where it's like, dude, you should
Scott Leese:probably spend a little bit.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:It's just a game to him collecting
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.
Scott Leese:Money.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You'd never know.
Mike Lindstrom:Wow.
Scott Leese:He just flies under the radar.
Scott Leese:So, there's a weird amount of respect I'll give that.
Mike Lindstrom:I gotta… Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:I'm with you on that.
Mike Lindstrom:I think there's something about the humble, but there… But
Mike Lindstrom:you're showing off your money.
Mike Lindstrom:You're not showing it all.
Mike Lindstrom:How do you… Was it people talking about you behind your back?
Mike Lindstrom:How do you know?
Mike Lindstrom:Like, how's that guy… How do people know that guy's wealthy?
Mike Lindstrom:You know because you have a relationship with a guy.
Scott Leese:Because you know, you know what he does.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:And you just kind of
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: You know what company
Mike Lindstrom:- Mike Lindstrom: …you make deductions.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:You surmise.
Scott Leese:You're like, "Oh, you're in the
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.
Scott Leese:Farming business.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, you're in oil.
Mike Lindstrom:Got it.
Scott Leese:Oh.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Oh, your last name is that?
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Gotcha.
Scott Leese:Oh, I could connect
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Gotcha.
Scott Leese:These things.
Mike Lindstrom:Kennedy.
Mike Lindstrom:Got it.
Scott Leese:Yeah, exactly.
Scott Leese:[laughing] Exactly.
Scott Leese:Exactly.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, so let's mix it up a little bit.
Mike Lindstrom:We got a little bit more time left.
Mike Lindstrom:Hot topics.
Mike Lindstrom:Hot topics.
Scott Leese:I got a hot topic I wanna
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Alright.
Scott Leese:…ask you.
Mike Lindstrom:You go first.
Mike Lindstrom:You throw one at me and I throw one at you.
Mike Lindstrom:I got one that
Scott Leese:This one's hot, dude.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay, let's go.
Scott Leese:Just be careful with it.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, let's go.
Scott Leese:What do you make of all this drama with the WNBA right now?
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, man.
Mike Lindstrom:I knew you were gonna ask about the WNBA.
Mike Lindstrom:I knew it.
Scott Leese:First time ever.
Mike Lindstrom:I know.
Mike Lindstrom:I know.
Mike Lindstrom:I know.
Mike Lindstrom:It's driving me bananas.
Mike Lindstrom:But you know what?
Mike Lindstrom:Here's the thing.
Mike Lindstrom:They have a brand.
Mike Lindstrom:Whatever… I think they're trying to figure out the brand.
Scott Leese:You're talking about the WNBA brand.
Mike Lindstrom:The WNBA itself.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Let me start there.
Mike Lindstrom:They have a brand, and they're still trying to figure out what their brand is.
Mike Lindstrom:So that's their struggle.
Mike Lindstrom:Apparently, there are memos that went out to all the owners this
Mike Lindstrom:week saying, Hey, who are we?
Mike Lindstrom:We need to figure out who's gonna be in this league?
Mike Lindstrom:Who's not gonna in this league?" And when you got two NBA men trying to
Mike Lindstrom:make a mockery of it, but they're not trying to make a mockery of it.
Mike Lindstrom:They're trying to make a point.
Mike Lindstrom:It's like, "Look, if you're not gonna make definitions to take hard-light stance
Mike Lindstrom:about, young girls or men and women, then I wanna be in the NBA, put me up for the
Mike Lindstrom:draft." Now it forces the hand of the WNBA to say, "Hey, who are we in reality?" So
Mike Lindstrom:that's what's happening at the WNBA level.
Mike Lindstrom:Where I really get problematic is the lens of the racial thing.
Mike Lindstrom:That's where I struggle.
Scott Leese:The white privilege tweet
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: 100%.
Scott Leese:…you didn't like that one?
Mike Lindstrom:That drove me nuts, because No matter who tweets it, when
Mike Lindstrom:they tweet it, if it was black and white, if the tables were turned.
Mike Lindstrom:All that aside, when I watch basketball, period, I don't see color.
Mike Lindstrom:I see a bunch of people p going out there doing their passion.
Mike Lindstrom:There's no part of my brain going, Oh, that's because she's white.
Mike Lindstrom:Oh, that's because she's Black." I don't watch basketball or sports
Mike Lindstrom:for that matter through that lens.
Mike Lindstrom:It just doesn't even cross my mind.
Mike Lindstrom:Even when something happens, somebody gets a hard foul on them,
Mike Lindstrom:somebody gets ejected from a game.
Mike Lindstrom:Racial filters don't cross my mind when I watch sports.
Mike Lindstrom:It just doesn't.
Mike Lindstrom:I watch sports to be entertained.
Mike Lindstrom:Most of my favorite athletes of all time are African American.
Mike Lindstrom:Michael Jordan, my favorite athlete of all time.
Mike Lindstrom:I never though, oh, he's this.
Mike Lindstrom:And I love Larry Bird.
Mike Lindstrom:Larry Bird's a white guy played for the Celtics.
Mike Lindstrom:I love him equally as much.
Mike Lindstrom:I love when Larry Bird and Michael Jordan played against each
Mike Lindstrom:other and just crush each other.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:And they have an amazing friendship years later, and
Mike Lindstrom:they get on TV and talk about it.
Mike Lindstrom:The… I don't see that through a lens.
Mike Lindstrom:So for somebody to have something happen and immediately go into the locker room…
Mike Lindstrom:And again, I don't know much about her.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't follow her per se.
Mike Lindstrom:But she immediately, her first instinct is to go to the locker
Mike Lindstrom:room and go on social media.
Scott Leese:Mid-game, by the way.
Mike Lindstrom:Huh?
Scott Leese:Mid-game.
Mike Lindstrom:Mid-game, which by the way, in most sports, that's not allowed.
Scott Leese:Yeah, it's
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: You're not supposed to be on your phone.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:If you're an MLB
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:During any time during the duration of a game, if you're on social
Mike Lindstrom:media, anything, period, you're fined.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Period.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:That's just a rule.
Mike Lindstrom:You can't have phones in the dugout.
Mike Lindstrom:I mean, I have friends that play in sports.
Mike Lindstrom:That's a no-no.
Mike Lindstrom:So the fact that that happened, that's one.
Mike Lindstrom:But two, the first filter is white privilege.
Mike Lindstrom:That just struck me wrong.
Mike Lindstrom:And the fact that now she's trying to backtrack and say, "Oh, I didn't
Mike Lindstrom:really… That's not what I really meant by." It's like, look, you wrote it.
Mike Lindstrom:These are your words, your thumbs put it on there.
Scott Leese:She said that's not really what she meant by it, but then she
Scott Leese:never explained what she did mean by it.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:That's what I have a problem with.
Mike Lindstrom:So what's your take on that?
Scott Leese:You wanna say that's not what you meant.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:Well, help me understand what you did mean.
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Scott Leese:If you want me to remain curious and try to, hear your perspective,
Scott Leese:give me your perspective, because all you did was say, "That's not what I meant.
Scott Leese:It's about something else, something deeper" or something like that, she said.
Scott Leese:And I'm like, "What's the deeper thing?
Scott Leese:Of course, that's what you meant.
Mike Lindstrom:And this is the part where I know guys like me, 53-year-old white
Mike Lindstrom:guy that's gonna say this on a podcast where people are gonna say, Oh, okay.
Mike Lindstrom:Coming from that per I don't care what race it is.
Mike Lindstrom:I don't care if it's Asian, Hispanic, or whatever.
Mike Lindstrom:If the, the tables were turned in any way, shape, or form, somebody
Mike Lindstrom:else said it on somebody else.
Mike Lindstrom:If it was Hispanic on Black, Black on White.
Mike Lindstrom:If it was any other context, people look at it a little differently.
Mike Lindstrom:Not say it's right or wrong, but people look at it differently.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:If Caitlin goes in there and says, "Oh, Black privilege,"
Mike Lindstrom:during a game, can you imagine?
Mike Lindstrom:Mm. Or anybody for that matter.
Mike Lindstrom:If somebody says, Oh, um, remember when we had the Asian invasion
Mike Lindstrom:in the NBA, when the Knicks
Mike Lindstrom:- Scott Leese: Jeremy Lin.
Mike Lindstrom:Jeremy Lin comes in the league and they're like," Oh my God, this
Mike Lindstrom:is amazing." Then somebody comes there and makes a comment about his Asianism in the
Mike Lindstrom:middle of a basketball game in the NBA.
Mike Lindstrom:Can you imagine what would happen?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:He's Asian.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay?
Mike Lindstrom:So what?
Mike Lindstrom:He's a great basketball player.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:So the fact that when we start to affix
Mike Lindstrom:race, I understand it's there.
Mike Lindstrom:I get it.
Mike Lindstrom:Understand the difference between Black and white and Asian when you're
Mike Lindstrom:watching the game or the last names.
Mike Lindstrom:But when you go out and you play the sport, you go on there to unite.
Mike Lindstrom:That's why I love watching the World Cup.
Scott Leese:The World Cup.
Mike Lindstrom:Cause you see all these people coming together.
Scott Leese:Or the Olympic team or something.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I didn't see, oh, that guy speak Spanish or he's from… I just saw
Mike Lindstrom:a bunch of people playing a sport that was amazing and having fun.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:That's how I saw it.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:So that was what I struggle with.
Scott Leese:It's a shame that they're getting attention for what feels like
Scott Leese:and seems like the wrong reasons.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You know?
Scott Leese:You want it to be on their athleticism.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:The competitiveness.
Mike Lindstrom:Yep.
Scott Leese:How they're becoming more popular just because the sport
Scott Leese:is growing and they're inspiring everybody, not just young girls,
Scott Leese:but just like everybody and whatnot.
Scott Leese:I agree.
Scott Leese:And now it's just
Mike Lindstrom:It's all cloudy.
Scott Leese:Race or
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: It's cloudy.
Scott Leese:…gender or
Mike Lindstrom:It's cloudy, man.
Scott Leese:Fair play or compensation.
Scott Leese:It's just oh, shit.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Can you just fucking play the game and
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You know?
Mike Lindstrom:I agree.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:All right, so I got one for you.
Mike Lindstrom:We've talked about this whole concept of how much should
Mike Lindstrom:we really protect our kids?
Mike Lindstrom:We've talked about snowplowing.
Mike Lindstrom:Snowplowing is a term being used in the media, getting out ahead
Mike Lindstrom:of your kids and protecting them.
Mike Lindstrom:Now we're getting to the next level where countries are saying
Mike Lindstrom:illegalized social media for teenagers.
Mike Lindstrom:What's your stance on that?
Scott Leese:I think Australia did that and France and
Scott Leese:somebody else is considering following, if I'm not mistaken.
Mike Lindstrom:Now, and then lawsuits are coming against the government now
Mike Lindstrom:saying, You can't do that." And these are in other countries, not in America yet.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Cause america's gonna say freedom of speech or whatever, right?
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Which I understand.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:But what's your stance, legal aside, when you say, you come in
Mike Lindstrom:and say, We've done it with seat belts.
Mike Lindstrom:We've done it with cigarettes."
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:We've done it with voting.
Mike Lindstrom:We've changed laws or drinking alcohol." the government has come
Mike Lindstrom:in and said, "No, we now don't longer, no longer think it's 16.
Mike Lindstrom:It's 18.
Mike Lindstrom:That's not 18.
Mike Lindstrom:It's 21." Should the government step in here and say, Hey, this is just another
Mike Lindstrom:prong where we need to step in for all y'all out there and say, Hey, this is
Mike Lindstrom:something that you guys aren't regulating.
Mike Lindstrom:We're gonna do it for you.
Scott Leese:I think my answer to this has gotta be no.
Mike Lindstrom:Okay.
Scott Leese:Because once you allow government to come in and
Scott Leese:say what somebody can or cannot do, especially how somebody parents
Scott Leese:their kid, now you've got problems.
Scott Leese:So okay, so today it's social media.
Scott Leese:Tomorrow, it's what?
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Scott Leese:What about adult websites?
Scott Leese:Obviously, the argument could be made that should happen, whether
Scott Leese:you agree with that or not.
Mike Lindstrom:By the way, that is happening.
Scott Leese:Yeah, that, that has.
Scott Leese:So cut that out.
Scott Leese:Cut social media out.
Scott Leese:Then what?
Scott Leese:What about gambling?
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Scott Leese:I'm not… I'm more worried about gambling sites, frankly, than I
Scott Leese:am about my kid being on social media.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:I agree with that.
Scott Leese:My kid can be on or whatever those other sites are.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Just in general, I think I don't want government
Scott Leese:telling me what I can or cannot.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:It does make it easier in some ways though, because if I
Scott Leese:was a parent in Australia, I'd be like, "Oh, it's not me, Timmy."
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You can't be on, Instagram, you can't get a
Scott Leese:Snapchat account until you're 16.
Scott Leese:What do you want from me?
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:No,
Scott Leese:I know.
Scott Leese:So from a parent perspective,
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Oh, you just took the, I can't be blamed.
Scott Leese:I'm off the hook a little bit.
Scott Leese:Blame the government, son.
Mike Lindstrom:No, you're right.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:You're absolutely right.
Mike Lindstrom:No, it's true, like with pornography, that's been a big
Mike Lindstrom:move in the last three years.
Mike Lindstrom:In Arizona, I don't know if this is in Texas, but if you were to go and, my
Mike Lindstrom:wife's a lawyer, I get to read all the latest and greatest in the law world.
Mike Lindstrom:For example, and I'm not a porn guy, just full disclosure.
Mike Lindstrom:I know I've been on it.
Mike Lindstrom:I know it's out there.
Mike Lindstrom:I know kids do it.
Mike Lindstrom:I've talked to my kids about it.
Mike Lindstrom:I get it.
Mike Lindstrom:But if you were to go to any given website, what's called the big ones
Mike Lindstrom:back in the day were like the big conglomerates were, Pornhub, they
Mike Lindstrom:own like a million websites or
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Scott Leese:You can't access that one in Texas, by the way.
Mike Lindstrom:RedTube was another conglomerate.
Mike Lindstrom:If you were to go on there on my phone right now, you couldn't go on it.
Mike Lindstrom:You have to verify.
Mike Lindstrom:It knows where you're pinging in from for your IP.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:That you're in the state of Arizona, you have to prove your ID that
Mike Lindstrom:you're 18 before you go on the website.
Mike Lindstrom:So they've already done this with pornography, being 18.
Scott Leese:Yeah.
Mike Lindstrom:Why can't they just do this with social media?
Mike Lindstrom:They already can blacklist whatever it is, Facebook, Snapchat.
Scott Leese:They can, but do they need to?
Mike Lindstrom:I don't know what, but why porn, why did they
Mike Lindstrom:draw the line of pornography?
Scott Leese:I don't know.
Mike Lindstrom:Pornography is equally as bad for a young person, a young mind.
Scott Leese:Is it?
Mike Lindstrom:It's,
Scott Leese:My son is on social media and he literally is watching
Scott Leese:videos about the stock market.
Mike Lindstrom:Sure.
Scott Leese:About soccer and football and stuff like this.
Mike Lindstrom:I totally get that.
Scott Leese:So it, it's not all harmful
Mike Lindstrom:Right.
Scott Leese:Is my point.
Mike Lindstrom:I do agree with that.
Scott Leese:Okay, the pornography side
Mike Lindstrom:I agree with that.
Scott Leese:You could argue all of it is harmful.
Mike Lindstrom:I do agree with that.
Mike Lindstrom:When you listen to our guy, Haidt, who combined his book about the
Mike Lindstrom:next generation and the generational problems with social media, it's
Mike Lindstrom:the way the brain is not ready to be able to process this like this,
Mike Lindstrom:the scrolling, the seven seconds.
Mike Lindstrom:So it's not just the content that, well, what's coming through
Mike Lindstrom:that screen, but it's what that's happening in that seven seconds.
Scott Leese:Okay.
Scott Leese:So a fully developed adult brain is at what, 25, I think?
Mike Lindstrom:I don't even know that.
Scott Leese:I think, somebody out there is gonna correct me, but I
Scott Leese:think it's like the brain is not fully developed until you're 25.
Scott Leese:So you're gonna keep people off social media till they're 25 then?
Mike Lindstrom:Yeah.
Scott Leese:Cause the argument is, this is my point.
Mike Lindstrom:It's a slippery slope.
Mike Lindstrom:It's a slippery slope.
Scott Leese:When the government starts getting involved
Scott Leese:- Mike Lindstrom: Yep.
Scott Leese:I agree.
Scott Leese:No, I,
Scott Leese:That's tough.
Mike Lindstrom:I see both sides of it.
Mike Lindstrom:I see both sides of it.
Mike Lindstrom:Well, we gotta do more of this, Scott Leese.
