Alexy Posner built AP Brand Group from absolute zero after her identity as a professional equestrian was ripped away at 21. What followed was deep depression, a string of low-paying sports jobs, a four-word text that changed everything on her 26th birthday, and a decision to bet on herself even when her parents basically called her a failure.

Today she manages NFL players like Mack Hollins, works with Jaleel White, and is producing a major movie on Ric Flair with Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. She also turned her love of Taylor Swift into Swifty Lifty Club, a fitness movement that has exploded across the globe with one simple rule: if you know the words, you sing.

In this episode of What’s Your Story with Mike & Scott, Alexy gets real about authenticity over easy money, why most athletes destroy their brand by saying yes too fast, the spiderweb exercise she uses with every client, and the non-negotiables that keep her sharp while scaling.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, Ric Flair?

Mike Lindstrom:

How did that happen?

Mike Lindstrom:

I gotta hear the story in this one.

Alexy Posner:

"Tricky Ricky," as I like to call him.

Alexy Posner:

One of my other clients is Jaleel White, who very famously played

Alexy Posner:

Steve Urkel in Family Matters.

Alexy Posner:

Long story short, we were at a cannabis convention in Chicago It

Alexy Posner:

was Rick, Mike Tyson, and Jaleel.

Alexy Posner:

And so I met Rick that way.

Alexy Posner:

He kept calling me Young Brooke Shields and said he never got a chance to kiss

Alexy Posner:

Brooke Shields, so could we change it now?

Alexy Posner:

And I said, [[laughing]] [[laughing]] "No."

Mike Lindstrom:

"Slick Ric."

Alexy Posner:

"No, we can't. [[laughing]] But thank you for the offer. Thank you

Alexy Posner:

anyways." most of these stories start with me mouthing back off to these people.

Alexy Posner:

I think that's kind of the common theme of it.

Alexy Posner:

Intro Band: Lean in closer. This is your time.

Alexy Posner:

Hit record on your crooked

Alexy Posner:

life. What's your story?

Alexy Posner:

(Hey!) Say the words out loud!

Alexy Posner:

Mike & Scott gonna crack that crowd.

Alexy Posner:

What's your story? (Hey!) Turn it up, let's go!

Alexy Posner:

Every voice. Every scar.

Alexy Posner:

Every road. What's your story?

Alexy Posner:

Mike and Scott.

Alexy Posner:

Let's talk.

Scott Leese:

What's up, everybody?

Scott Leese:

Welcome to another episode of the What's Your Story Podcast.

Scott Leese:

I'm Scott Leese.

Scott Leese:

This is my good friend and co-host, Mike Lindstrom.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm here.

Scott Leese:

Representing the USA today?

Mike Lindstrom:

Baby, 250 years

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Atta boy.

Mike Lindstrom:

…this country.

Scott Leese:

Big game coming up.

Mike Lindstrom:

Big pro - I know, I know.

Scott Leese:

Big game.

Scott Leese:

All my Aussie friends are trying to give it to me right now.

Scott Leese:

They think they're feeling pretty confident.

Mike Lindstrom:

It can happen.

Scott Leese:

I don't think it's gonna happen.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's gonna be like 5-0.

Scott Leese:

5-0?

Scott Leese:

5-0.

Mike Lindstrom:

We'll do four

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: You heard it here first.

Mike Lindstrom:

We got four goals.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, that's great, right?

Scott Leese:

You heard it here first.

Mike Lindstrom:

You did hear first.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Wow.

Mike Lindstrom:

Pretty pumped about today, by the way

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah?

Mike Lindstrom:

Who we have here.

Scott Leese:

Well, her name is Alexy Posner.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, she's great.

Scott Leese:

Tell everybody what she does.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's, I don't even wanna say influencer,

Mike Lindstrom:

agency, brand manager, badass.

Scott Leese:

Do you think that we're big enough where she would manage

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Swiftie

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: …she'd manage our brand, do you think?

Mike Lindstrom:

She might be able to do that.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, that, we could talk about that off camera, but she knows how to do

Scott Leese:

We'll have to

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: The

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: Maybe we'll give her the pitch.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, I'm pumped.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm pumped.

Scott Leese:

But we're excited to have her.

Scott Leese:

Alexy Posner, welcome to the show.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you guys for having me.

Alexy Posner:

That was quite the spastic intro.

Alexy Posner:

I loved everything about it.

Alexy Posner:

That's how we operate.

Mike Lindstrom:

That we do it.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's how we roll.

Alexy Posner:

I loved everything about it.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you guys for having me.

Alexy Posner:

It's so fun to be here with you both.

Scott Leese:

Well, we start off every show by just trying to get to know people.

Scott Leese:

That's the whole

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: 'Kay.

Scott Leese:

Basis of our podcast is ""What's Your Story?"

Alexy Posner:

Awesome.

Scott Leese:

Right?

Scott Leese:

You can take that question whatever direction you want.

Scott Leese:

But who is Alexy?

Scott Leese:

How did you get to where you are today?

Alexy Posner:

It's a very open-ended question.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yes.

Alexy Posner:

…but I'm here for it.

Mike Lindstrom:

On purpose.

Alexy Posner:

So originally from Philly, I grew up riding horses.

Alexy Posner:

I was a professional athlete all the way up until 21 when my parents

Alexy Posner:

decided that my expensive habit was no longer needed to be funded,

Alexy Posner:

because horses are quite expensive.

Alexy Posner:

But my whole existence was tied to my riding and to my sport.

Alexy Posner:

And so when that ended, I went through a very deep, dark depression, and so many

Alexy Posner:

people who tie their identity to something outside of their control can experience.

Alexy Posner:

And I had no idea who I was, because for 20 some years, I had introduced

Alexy Posner:

myself as, "Oh, I'm Alexy. I ride horses." that was who I was.

Alexy Posner:

And so, knew I wanted to stay in something that was gonna have my back against

Alexy Posner:

the wall in kind of this uphill climb.

Alexy Posner:

And I'm like, "It's gonna be sport." So, was able to move into working in sport.

Alexy Posner:

I worked for a minor league baseball team, minor league hockey team, no soccer,

Alexy Posner:

but minor league baseball and hockey.

Alexy Posner:

and really quickly found that my story was not a very unique story that

Alexy Posner:

the individuals that I was working with on these teams, I started at

Alexy Posner:

the Lancaster Barnstormers, which is an independent baseball team.

Alexy Posner:

So I had these guys that were playing for the team and they had won a World

Alexy Posner:

Series, had been MVP, had Daryle Ward hit the longest ball ever out of PNC Park.

Alexy Posner:

And I'm like, "Why are you playing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the

Alexy Posner:

Atlantic League, making 1,700 bucks a month?" And every single story

Alexy Posner:

was "I don't know what else to do.

Alexy Posner:

This is all I know.

Alexy Posner:

This is all I know." And this was in 2012.

Alexy Posner:

And so at that point, social media was starting to creep up.

Alexy Posner:

We started to see Facebook.

Alexy Posner:

We started to see Instagram came forward.

Alexy Posner:

And I was like, "I think my calling is working with athletes to help build their

Alexy Posner:

brand while they're actively playing, that when they're done playing, this

Alexy Posner:

doesn't feel like some rug got ripped out from underneath them, but that it

Alexy Posner:

actually is a brand based on passion and purpose that they step forward into."

Alexy Posner:

And so, yeah, started AP Brand Group 10 years ago and have been lucky

Alexy Posner:

enough to work with amazing athletes and talent building their brands

Alexy Posner:

based on their passion and purpose.

Mike Lindstrom:

There was no sport specific though.

Mike Lindstrom:

Your baseball were there, but was there anything that you were like, "I

Mike Lindstrom:

wanna go into football or baseball."

Mike Lindstrom:

Was there any

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: No.

Mike Lindstrom:

Calling there or was it

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: No.

Mike Lindstrom:

…just natural?

Alexy Posner:

I am a very big believer in following what windows open.

Alexy Posner:

I never, I don't think some big wide door ever really flies open

Alexy Posner:

for you, but just being attuned and available to "Ooh, that window's

Alexy Posner:

there," and kinda following that lead.

Alexy Posner:

And so I've just, every single client has been word of mouth

Alexy Posner:

and have grown, from there.

Alexy Posner:

But baseball is my first love.

Alexy Posner:

I love, love baseball.

Alexy Posner:

Watching Doc Halladay pitch, as a young, younger person, he was probably my

Alexy Posner:

favorite baseball player ever to play.

Alexy Posner:

So fell in love with baseball a long time ago.

Mike Lindstrom:

Love it.

Alexy Posner:

Now, weirdly, don't work with any baseball players.

Alexy Posner:

I just work with all NFL guys, but

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Is that right?

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I have no baseball players.

Alexy Posner:

But I love my NFL boys.

Alexy Posner:

They're easy.

Scott Leese:

Is that strategic on your part to only work with NFL, or is that

Scott Leese:

just the way that it's happening?

Alexy Posner:

The way that it's flown.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, you guys said you may need representation.

Alexy Posner:

All of a sudden, I have a former soccer player that I'm working with.

Alexy Posner:

it's all just kind of word of mouth and how it's all flowed together.

Scott Leese:

So how did you make the leap

Alexy Posner:

This is a wild story.

Alexy Posner:

so worked for the Barnstormers, got fired from my job there.

Alexy Posner:

I've always been very loud, opinionated, and I, this idea of not being

Alexy Posner:

able to enact change is something

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

…that is really

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: It's hard.

Alexy Posner:

I really struggle with.

Alexy Posner:

and I don't love authority either.

Alexy Posner:

I don't work well for other people.

Alexy Posner:

[laughing] So I got fired from the Barnstormers, and I was devastated.

Alexy Posner:

Then went and worked for very quickly for a nonprofit for, like, a month and

Alexy Posner:

got hired on by the Fightin' Phils.

Alexy Posner:

So then worked for the Phillies, and then was scooped up out of there

Alexy Posner:

to go work for the Reading Royals, which is the ECHL hockey team.

Alexy Posner:

And I basically was working on all these jobs, straight out of college, I'm

Alexy Posner:

making, like, $24,000 a year, 26,000.

Alexy Posner:

Finally, for the Royals, I was making 31,000, and I'm like, "This is, I'm

Alexy Posner:

crushing it, you know?" Bananas.

Alexy Posner:

My brother, side note, went into finance and made, like, 150 out of college.

Alexy Posner:

My parents were like, "Good job, you." I'm like, "What the fuck are

Alexy Posner:

you doing?" [[laughing]] But yeah, so I was working for the Reading Royals,

Alexy Posner:

and there was just, it felt like doors were constantly slamming, and I just

Alexy Posner:

was like, "This doesn't feel right.

Alexy Posner:

something isn't.

Alexy Posner:

I'm constantly being misunderstood." I don't know.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I just couldn't quite, wasn't the right spot.

Alexy Posner:

And I'm like, "I am working my frigging tail off, making no money, building

Alexy Posner:

something for someone else. Why am I not just betting on myself? if I'm

Alexy Posner:

gonna make no money, I might as well make no money for myself, not make

Alexy Posner:

no money working for somebody else."

Alexy Posner:

And, I have never been financially driven in that way, but it just, logically,

Alexy Posner:

the bank isn't that full right now.

Alexy Posner:

So, "I think it's really time to kinda bet on myself." And so, I ended up

Alexy Posner:

getting a job after the Reading Royals, with Lee Steinberg, who works, as, the

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: I know who that is.

Alexy Posner:

yeah, yeah, yeah.

Alexy Posner:

So Lee, very famous sports agent, his younger agent ended up texting me right

Alexy Posner:

before I moved out to California, so broke the lease on my apartment, packed

Alexy Posner:

everything up, was moving out to LA.

Alexy Posner:

and I got a text from him saying, "Opportunity off the

Alexy Posner:

table." My spirit number's four.

Alexy Posner:

It was four words text message on my 26th birthday.

Alexy Posner:

And I was like, "Yeah, okay, so clearly I'm not getting the signs loud enough.

Alexy Posner:

This is the loud enough sign from the universe saying, "Go bet on

Alexy Posner:

yourself, start your own thing." And I just kept hearing in my

Alexy Posner:

head, "If not now, then when?

Alexy Posner:

If not now, then when?" And so, I called my parents.

Alexy Posner:

I moved back home with them.

Alexy Posner:

I left my house when I was 16, 10 years later, I'm moving back in.

Alexy Posner:

And, I basically asked them if I could live there, and they said,

Alexy Posner:

"We'll feed you and we'll house you, but you gotta go back to school.

Alexy Posner:

You gotta go do something.

Alexy Posner:

this is no shot.

Alexy Posner:

Is this ever gonna work out.

Alexy Posner:

you're basically a loser and a failure." And I kinda said, "Watch me."

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, I love that.

Alexy Posner:

And now 10 years later, here's AP Brand Group.

Mike Lindstrom:

So what's your relationship with Lee these days?

Mike Lindstrom:

Do you

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: He, you know what?

Mike Lindstrom:

I see him at the Super Bowl every single year.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I always give him a hug.

Alexy Posner:

I have no hard feelings, and I am honestly so grateful for him and for Chris, because

Alexy Posner:

if I would've taken that role and moved out to LA, who knows where the path

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

…would've gone?

Alexy Posner:

It was the exact perfect thing that needed to happen.

Alexy Posner:

In the moment, I was sitting at an Eagles game, had had many a drinks,

Alexy Posner:

and it was a Sunday on my birthday, and I'm like, " "Holy smokes.

Alexy Posner:

I now am actually unemployed.

Alexy Posner:

what the hell am I gonna do?" [[laughing]] So, in that moment, if you would've asked

Alexy Posner:

me, I'm not sure what my answer would've been, but no, I'm so grateful for him.

Alexy Posner:

Chris is unbelievable what they've built, and yeah, it's, it's

Alexy Posner:

exactly what needed to happen.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, yeah, so Nick Lowry, who's been our guest on the show, he'll

Mike Lindstrom:

be in here today, he always comes on the show, loves being on the podcast.

Mike Lindstrom:

Lee wrote his foreword to his book

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Amazing.

Mike Lindstrom:

That just came out.

Alexy Posner:

Amazing.

Alexy Posner:

So much respect for Lee.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I hear all these great stories about Lee.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I grew up in Northern California.

Mike Lindstrom:

I went to law school in San Diego, but some of my sports agent

Mike Lindstrom:

friends are always talking about.

Alexy Posner:

He's the godfather of

Mike Lindstrom:

It all.

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's be real.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, he's the guy that kind of built it all back.

Alexy Posner:

Jerry Maguire based on his, yeah, yeah., yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's cool.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's a good story.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, so that's where it all started

Mike Lindstrom:

All right, so we have to go to this other thing real quick.

Mike Lindstrom:

Cuz, like

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to bring this up.

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's a little Swifty thing.

Mike Lindstrom:

this is

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Buckle up, here we go.

Mike Lindstrom:

No, but everyone's

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…everyone said, "You, know about her, the doing this, and

Mike Lindstrom:

doing this, and doing that." And then I pull up Instagram, and I'm like, "What's

Mike Lindstrom:

going on here?" I see her over here.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's with these athletes.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's at these games, and all of a sudden I see her at some place doing yoga

Mike Lindstrom:

and doing stuff with the Swifty group.

Mike Lindstrom:

I gotta hear the story.

Mike Lindstrom:

how'd this happen?

Alexy Posner:

Sure.

Alexy Posner:

Yes, absolutely.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's part of who you are, right?

Mike Lindstrom:

Part of it?

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, yeah.

Alexy Posner:

So AP Brand Group, athlete and talent management firm.

Alexy Posner:

Three years ago, I added a production arm to it, so we also produced

Alexy Posner:

large scale events and activations.

Alexy Posner:

my personal passion, I love fitness.

Alexy Posner:

Obviously, growing up an athlete, that is what has always been a huge

Alexy Posner:

contributor to keeping my mental health in the best state possible.

Alexy Posner:

So, I started coaching.

Alexy Posner:

I was in yoga, and then I coached at Rumble, I did cycle.

Alexy Posner:

And, anyway, a little over a year and a half ago, I started coaching an amazing

Alexy Posner:

place here in Phoenix called Groundwork.

Alexy Posner:

And I was like, " How am I gonna, differentiate myself?"

Alexy Posner:

And Groundwork is, it's dope.

Alexy Posner:

It's dark and sexy and moody and everyone's so hot.

Alexy Posner:

And I was like, "I'm kind of pink." that's sort of my brand, bubbly and pink.

Alexy Posner:

and I love Taylor Swift, and I was like, build a brand off of her music

Alexy Posner:

and attract that group of people in."

Alexy Posner:

And so, started doing these Swifty Lifty events once a month.

Alexy Posner:

And then in January of this year, I officially launched Swifty

Alexy Posner:

Lifty Club, which has kinda become this viral sensation.

Alexy Posner:

So we're taking it all over the world and

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: That's crazy.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

It's been really, really crazy and so fun.

Alexy Posner:

And it is my favorite thing, honestly, having people come up to me during

Alexy Posner:

class or after class and be "This was the once a month I moved my body.

Alexy Posner:

I didn't know I could do that.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you." That brings me so much joy or seeing people that came to my January

Alexy Posner:

class, and then they were just at May, and they're like, "I've been going to the

Alexy Posner:

gym every day." And I'm like, "Oh my gosh, that makes my heart so happy." So we get

Alexy Posner:

women, men, kids, I have little girls that come to class that are six years old, all

Alexy Posner:

the way up to, like, 85-year-old women.

Alexy Posner:

All shapes, sizes, capabilities, and that there's one rule of

Alexy Posner:

Swifty Lifty Club, which is if you know the words, you gotta sing.

Alexy Posner:

Outside of that, I could care less what you do.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's it.

Alexy Posner:

That's it.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's the only rule.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, I'm fascinated with this.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, this

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm really fascinated by this.

Alexy Posner:

Right, because she's the greatest marketer

Alexy Posner:

of all time, Taylor Swift.

Mike Lindstrom:

100%.

Mike Lindstrom:

100%.

Alexy Posner:

Yes, yes.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm a big fan.

Mike Lindstrom:

What is it about that though?

Mike Lindstrom:

You're a brander.

Mike Lindstrom:

So let's talk about branding.

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's put your, your expert hat on.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, yeah, 100%.

Mike Lindstrom:

What is she doing?

Mike Lindstrom:

there's people who may not like her, certain men or football

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Sure, sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

Or whatever, but she's done something amazing.

Mike Lindstrom:

what is it about her?

Alexy Posner:

I think this is where we've seen the success with Swifty Lifty Club.

Alexy Posner:

We say it's, has nothing to do with the actual workout, right?

Alexy Posner:

anybody could get up there and play a Taylor song and grab some bands and

Alexy Posner:

tell someone to do jump squats, right?

Alexy Posner:

It's not that.

Alexy Posner:

It's that we've tapped into the ethos of the community.

Alexy Posner:

That is what she has built.

Alexy Posner:

She's built this incredible network of humans that all they wanna do is

Alexy Posner:

just connect with each other, right?

Alexy Posner:

And it's so positive.

Alexy Posner:

In the Swifty world, no one's looking at somebody else and being "Oh,

Alexy Posner:

that girl this, or this guy that."

Alexy Posner:

It's all about connection and community.

Alexy Posner:

And I think at our deepest human core, that's truly what we all want, right?

Alexy Posner:

We wanna have that common ground.

Alexy Posner:

We wanna be able to just genuinely be like, "Oh my God, you love

Alexy Posner:

Taylor? Here's a friendship bracelet. Okay, I'll take one too." And it's

Alexy Posner:

just this really positive piece.

Alexy Posner:

So yeah, her genius comes from the ability that she's built this amazing community.

Scott Leese:

Is there an athlete out there

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…doing something

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Great question.

Scott Leese:

…similar?

Scott Leese:

Or

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Ooh, oh my God, such a good

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: Or is it even possible

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah, how do you

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: …for an athlete?

Mike Lindstrom:

How do you translate that?

Mike Lindstrom:

'Cause you know this.

Alexy Posner:

Mm-hmm.

Alexy Posner:

So, I mean, the obvious answer would be what the Kelseys have done, but that's

Alexy Posner:

still part of the Swifty effect of it all.

Alexy Posner:

One of my own clients, Mack Hollins, is probably my favorite

Alexy Posner:

example played for the Bills.

Scott Leese:

Oh, yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Mack hasn't created quite the same insane fandom, but what he's done

Alexy Posner:

really well is stick to his authenticity.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

What you see with Mack is what you get.

Alexy Posner:

He says no to more deals.

Alexy Posner:

I don't think anyone else could manage him but me because he turns down so much.

Alexy Posner:

[[laughing]] But he is what you see on camera, the eating with your hands,

Alexy Posner:

the not wearing shoes, that sort of caveman-y vibe, and when the cameras are

Scott Leese:

He is one of my favorite players on the Bills.

Alexy Posner:

Gritty, the best.

Alexy Posner:

And when the cameras aren't on him, he's the exact same person.

Alexy Posner:

The mad scientist thing, totally him.

Alexy Posner:

All of it.

Alexy Posner:

So, I think what he's done a really great job is build a brand.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, obviously, we've built it together and have been working together

Alexy Posner:

for a long time, but on authenticity first, ability to say no second.

Alexy Posner:

He's been really unapologetic about what he stands for, and I

Alexy Posner:

think that's a really cool thing.

Alexy Posner:

And kinda similar to Taylor Swift, she is who she is., and stands in that lane.

Alexy Posner:

And I think that's where you can kinda see that translation.

Mike Lindstrom:

So how'd you meet him, by the way?

Alexy Posner:

Oh.

Alexy Posner:

Mack, yeah.

Alexy Posner:

So Mack and I have been working together for nine years, so pretty much his whole

Alexy Posner:

entire career, which is really cool to build everything from the ground up.

Alexy Posner:

He came out to set of American Ninja Warrior.

Alexy Posner:

My first client is Akbar Gbaja-Biamila 10 years later.

Alexy Posner:

Wow.

Alexy Posner:

We're still working together.

Alexy Posner:

And Mack came out to the set of American Ninja Warrior with a bunch of other

Alexy Posner:

NFL guys when we were taping in LA.

Alexy Posner:

And I was wearing knockoff Balenciaga sneakers, and he made fun of me and

Alexy Posner:

was "Oh, I see you big money with your Balenciaga sneakers." Me, being from

Alexy Posner:

Philly, chirped immediately back at him.

Alexy Posner:

And he was like, "Oh, you're funny." And I was like, "Ah, yeah, whatever."

Alexy Posner:

And so we exchanged information.

Alexy Posner:

I said, "If you wanna get together, I live in Philly." And at that

Alexy Posner:

time, he was playing for the Birds.

Alexy Posner:

We had dinner and kinda started talking and it snowballed from there.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

But yeah, he's a character.

Alexy Posner:

He's the best.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Best, best, best, total character.

Mike Lindstrom:

I know you're a big fan of him, right?

Scott Leese:

My whole family is, originally from Buffalo and

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Niagara Falls area.

Scott Leese:

And my kids and I were devastated when he left Buffalo to go to the Patriots.

Scott Leese:

He hopefully doesn't get too mad at me, but he's not a superstar wide receiver.

Scott Leese:

He does a lot of the unsung, dirty things.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

And he's a high character

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Hell yeah.

Scott Leese:

…contributor to the team.

Scott Leese:

And he's a good blocker.

Scott Leese:

And, we were just crushed.

Scott Leese:

And of all things, he went to the Patriots, which was just dude

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: And then they went to the Super Bowl.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Well

Scott Leese:

but they lost.

Mike Lindstrom:

Like how she just stuck that in there.

Scott Leese:

I know.

Scott Leese:

I know.

Scott Leese:

Everybody has to.

Scott Leese:

Everybody has to.

Scott Leese:

It's fine.

Scott Leese:

I get It.

Alexy Posner:

No.

Mike Lindstrom:

So Ric Flair?

Mike Lindstrom:

[[laughing]] All right.

Mike Lindstrom:

All right.

Mike Lindstrom:

First of all, I met Ric Flair.

Alexy Posner:

Ricky.

Mike Lindstrom:

True story, man.

Mike Lindstrom:

I met him in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

In 19, I remember I was in college.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

'Cause my uncle used to live out there.

Mike Lindstrom:

We were at this little rinky-dink bar on the beach, and all of a

Mike Lindstrom:

sudden, we hear this background, woo.

Mike Lindstrom:

[[laughing]] Out of nowhere.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we're "What the hell is it?" And I looked him.

Mike Lindstrom:

I knew who he was, and I knew that sound.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I look back, my friend Paul Shield and I looked back and they were "Oh

Mike Lindstrom:

my God, that's Ric Flair." No one in the bar really knew who he was.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we went up to him and he was the coolest guy.

Alexy Posner:

Best.

Mike Lindstrom:

Took pictures.

Alexy Posner:

Best.

Mike Lindstrom:

Just the nicest guy.

Mike Lindstrom:

So how did that happen?

Mike Lindstrom:

I gotta hear the story in this one.

Alexy Posner:

Oh, goodness.

Alexy Posner:

So "Tricky Ricky," as I like to call him.

Alexy Posner:

One of my other clients is Jaleel White, who very famously played

Alexy Posner:

Steve Urkel in Family Matters.

Alexy Posner:

Jaleel's gone on to have a huge acting and hosting career.

Alexy Posner:

but we started a cannabis line together, Jaleel and I, called Purple Urkle.

Alexy Posner:

Long story short, we were at a cannabis convention in Chicago, and Rick was there.

Alexy Posner:

It was Rick, Mike Tyson, and Jaleel.

Alexy Posner:

And so I met Rick that way.

Alexy Posner:

He kept calling me Young Brooke Shields and said he never got a chance to kiss

Alexy Posner:

Brooke Shields, so could we change it now?

Alexy Posner:

And I said, [[laughing]] [[laughing]] "No."

Mike Lindstrom:

"Slick Ric

Mike Lindstrom:

" Alexy Posner: No, we can't.

Mike Lindstrom:

[[laughing]] But thank you for the offer.

Mike Lindstrom:

Thank you anyways." So anyway, I found him just so funny and amusing.

Mike Lindstrom:

I didn't really grow up a WWE, WWF fan.

Mike Lindstrom:

he's iconic.

Mike Lindstrom:

Everyone knows who Ric Flair is pretty much.

Mike Lindstrom:

Of course.

Alexy Posner:

But I wasn't one of those things where I was "Oh, some super fan."

Alexy Posner:

And most of these stories start with me mouthing back off to these people.

Alexy Posner:

I think that's kind of the common theme of it.

Scott Leese:

That's the ra - where the rapport, uh

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: That's 100%.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I wanna ask a business related question.

Scott Leese:

You talk about Mack

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Kind of declining offers

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

And all this kind of thing.

Scott Leese:

It's interesting when you represent people because obviously the more

Scott Leese:

deals they do, the more you earn.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

But you have to get away from a transactional

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yes.

Scott Leese:

Mindset and mentality of

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: 100.

Scott Leese:

Oh, cool.

Scott Leese:

Here's a million bucks in my pocket today, versus you took that and it just cost

Scott Leese:

you 30 because you took your brand in a

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Different direction.

Scott Leese:

how do you manage that with your clients?

Alexy Posner:

Mm-hmm.

Scott Leese:

Athletes, actors, and whatnot?

Scott Leese:

Do you struggle sometimes with them wanting this money now

Scott Leese:

versus having a long-term vision?

Scott Leese:

Or is it the opposite?

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Where they have that vision more and you're like, "No, I want it now."

Alexy Posner:

So I kinda made a commitment very early on in my career

Alexy Posner:

that I was never gonna chase dollars.

Alexy Posner:

I think from a vibrational and energetic standpoint when you're constantly

Alexy Posner:

mining if it's must get more money, must get more money, you're gonna

Alexy Posner:

start to make the wrong decisions.

Alexy Posner:

what you put out there is what you get back.

Alexy Posner:

I deeply, deeply, deeply believe that.

Alexy Posner:

And whether people wanna call me woo-woo for that

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: We're big believers in

Alexy Posner:

that.

Alexy Posner:

Truly,

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

… Alexy Posner: What you put out there, right?

Alexy Posner:

It's kinda like dating, right?

Alexy Posner:

If I'm walking into a bar being like, "Oh my God, I have to find my husband.

Alexy Posner:

I have to find my husband." Men are going to walk very far away from me.

Alexy Posner:

But if you walk in and you're confident and cool and just know who you are

Alexy Posner:

and stick to that, that's what starts to attract the right people in.

Alexy Posner:

And so I very much so have that same mentality when it comes to business.

Alexy Posner:

With that said, all of my clients also have that same

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Commitment.

Alexy Posner:

And I will tell people I get calls.

Alexy Posner:

I feel very lucky.

Alexy Posner:

I get calls all the time, people wanting me to work with them.

Alexy Posner:

And I'm like, "Listen, I probably am not gonna make you the most amount of

Alexy Posner:

money in the next six months, but if you give me a year with you in a year and a

Alexy Posner:

half, you're gonna be like, "Oh, shit.

Alexy Posner:

I have a brand.

Alexy Posner:

I really have created something awesome."

Alexy Posner:

So I've always tried to kinda be more on the long game of it.

Alexy Posner:

But yes, Mack does drive me crazy every once in a while.

Alexy Posner:

There are certain ones where I'm please, please let's just take this.

Alexy Posner:

This really, really does make so much sense," [[laughing]] but

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

He's my very opinionated, and he'll be the first to admit it.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's a good way of putting it.

Mike Lindstrom:

"This makes so much sense."

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

"This makes so much sense." I gotta do that.

Scott Leese:

You gotta steal that phrase.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's good.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I was thinking about when you were talking about that.

Mike Lindstrom:

I have this thing that I use in my work.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's called the G-A-S Factor.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

"Give-A-Shit Factor."

Alexy Posner:

Mmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

When your Give-A-Shit Factor is really high, you

Mike Lindstrom:

really want something that's pure purpose-driven, you're passionate

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…about it.

Mike Lindstrom:

But there's also the opposite of it.

Mike Lindstrom:

When you just don't give a shit

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's like, yeah, whatever.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So your concept of, "Hey, I don't really think about the

Mike Lindstrom:

money and the deal because I don't really give a shit about that."

Alexy Posner:

Yep.

Mike Lindstrom:

I care about the purpose, The brand and what you're creating.

Mike Lindstrom:

So there's always this toggle between is the G-A-S Factor high or low?

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

But the fact that you're able to attract things in your

Mike Lindstrom:

life, because just even the vibe that I've, in the last hour that we've met,

Mike Lindstrom:

I can tell, she doesn't give a shit.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's just gonna be herself.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Take it or leave it.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

And that's attractive to people.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you.

Alexy Posner:

I really appreciate that.

Alexy Posner:

you know, I think it's also standing for your worth, which is something

Alexy Posner:

for me personally, I've battled with when it comes to my own, what

Alexy Posner:

I should be charging for something.

Alexy Posner:

And as I've gotten older, I've gotten a little bit deeper in my own roots of

Alexy Posner:

being able to kind of stand for that.

Alexy Posner:

But it's very funny how brands, you're like, "Nope, sorry, we're not gonna do

Alexy Posner:

that." And, Mack and I laugh all the time.

Alexy Posner:

We're like, "Well, I guess they really wanted him" because they'll

Alexy Posner:

come back and actually pay the values that's supposed to be paid.

Alexy Posner:

And so, yeah, we're, I'm kinda constantly juggling in in that realm.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Who are some of your big influences outside of there's some of the names

Mike Lindstrom:

you've mentioned already, but parents

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

Those things that you were taught at a young

Mike Lindstrom:

age that you still live by?

Mike Lindstrom:

Standards, values, rules, influences that you have?

Alexy Posner:

So my mother is incredible.

Alexy Posner:

She is a neuroradiologist, runs a residency program at Penn, has

Alexy Posner:

out-earned my father my whole life.

Alexy Posner:

She's a badass.

Alexy Posner:

Not the most warm and fuzzy human you'll ever meet.

Alexy Posner:

So some of my more spicy qualities also come from her.

Alexy Posner:

But from a very young age, her work ethic is I've never seen anything like it.

Alexy Posner:

So I attribute pretty much all of this to her of her she

Alexy Posner:

always had my childhood room.

Alexy Posner:

I didn't have pinks and unicorns and anything.

Alexy Posner:

I had pencils and books, and so I had to be top student.

Alexy Posner:

And she was always like, "You're gonna be the ruler of the universe." And I

Alexy Posner:

think hearing that from her at a very young age was really instrumental.

Mike Lindstrom:

Is that what

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: So

Mike Lindstrom:

- Mike Lindstrom: She would tell you that?

Alexy Posner:

Oh yeah, 100%.

Mike Lindstrom:

Wow.

Alexy Posner:

She's like, "You can do anything. Just keep…" Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

So she's definitely a huge contributing factor.

Alexy Posner:

She's very, very, very spicy and tough, don't get me wrong.

Alexy Posner:

I'd get a 98 and she'd be like, "What happened to the other two points?"

Mike Lindstrom:

Wow.

Alexy Posner:

So, there's the other side of the sword, but I also.

Alexy Posner:

I have three incredible older sisters and a little brother who's my best friend.

Alexy Posner:

And my older sisters were more of the warm, fuzzy mom side.

Alexy Posner:

And then my mom kinda taught me how to be a badass.

Mike Lindstrom:

So the brother, how far are you apart in age?

Alexy Posner:

So he's 33.

Alexy Posner:

He's my best friend in the whole world.

Alexy Posner:

And then my sisters are a little bit older than me, so

Alexy Posner:

there's, like, a 10-year age gap.

Alexy Posner:

And then it starts my three older sisters.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So what's the biggest thing your brother's taught you?

Mike Lindstrom:

Just about-

Alexy Posner:

Oh, God.

Mike Lindstrom:

…boys, men

Alexy Posner:

My my little brother, oh my gosh.

Alexy Posner:

He is the funniest, quirkiest guy.

Alexy Posner:

He's incredibly smart.

Alexy Posner:

He started his own private equity firm and is unbelievably successful.

Alexy Posner:

What's the biggest thing he's taught me?

Alexy Posner:

He honestly is the most unapologetic of who he is.

Alexy Posner:

He's so quirky and weird.

Alexy Posner:

He may slightly be on the spectrum.

Alexy Posner:

He is who he is and is totally okay with that.

Alexy Posner:

And I think that's something I've really admired about him, even if it makes people

Alexy Posner:

feel a little like, "What is this guy up to? He's just quite an odd bird." So.

Scott Leese:

Well

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: [laughing]

Scott Leese:

I can't remember where I first heard this,

Scott Leese:

but everybody has a brand.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yep.

Alexy Posner:

Yes.

Scott Leese:

You have it whether you think you do or not.

Alexy Posner:

Yep.

Scott Leese:

Not everybody does something with it.

Scott Leese:

Not everybody kind of controls that narrative.

Scott Leese:

So let's say there's fledgling athletes out there.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

At what point do you think somebody should start

Scott Leese:

to take control of a brand?

Alexy Posner:

Mm.

Scott Leese:

Is it, before you're getting recruited, before

Scott Leese:

you sign, before you go pro?

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Is there a certain level of notoriety that you've already

Scott Leese:

received, certain number of followers?

Scott Leese:

How does somebody know, "Oh, shit, now is a time I should

Scott Leese:

actually do something about this?"

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, I think at any, like you said, everyone has a brand.

Alexy Posner:

And so, your son is a great example.

Alexy Posner:

I know he's starting to look at colleges and is a star athlete.

Alexy Posner:

Right now, even having those workshop moments with him, and one of the

Alexy Posner:

first things I have any athlete do is do you remember in elementary

Alexy Posner:

school where you do a word bubble?

Alexy Posner:

You do like, your name in the middle.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

You do something in the middle and then you do this spiderweb.

Alexy Posner:

And so, one of the first things I do with any of the athletes is I'm like,

Alexy Posner:

"Let's make a spiderweb together.

Alexy Posner:

I want you to tell me everything you love, do, care about,

Alexy Posner:

passionate about, think of, eat.

Alexy Posner:

I don't care what it is.

Alexy Posner:

Let's just get everything in one spot." 'Cause I think sometimes

Alexy Posner:

people get a little paralyzed at what is their brand, and it

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

…actually can be right on the page in front of you.

Alexy Posner:

And so, then, once all that's down there, you can start to pull and be like, "Oh,

Alexy Posner:

you know what? This…" And this is the other biggest piece I could say is,

Alexy Posner:

some things are part of a public brand.

Alexy Posner:

Some things are part of who you intrinsically are, but you don't

Alexy Posner:

need to share that publicly.

Alexy Posner:

Faith is one that is a. I see people toggle back and forth all the time.

Alexy Posner:

Faith may be something so deeply important to you and your core, but maybe not

Alexy Posner:

something that publicly gets talked about.

Alexy Posner:

So

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Mm-hmm.

Alexy Posner:

…as you look at that spiderweb and start to kind of figure

Alexy Posner:

out what is there, then the next question is, "Okay, now what do I

Alexy Posner:

actually want someone to know about me?"

Alexy Posner:

'Cause that's ultimately what building a brand is.

Alexy Posner:

It's creating an emotion through consumer engagement platforms, right?

Alexy Posner:

So if we look at all those consumer engagement touchpoints, that's social

Alexy Posner:

media, that's media relations, that's public relations, et cetera, brand deals.

Alexy Posner:

What do I want those consumers to know and ultimately feel about me?

Alexy Posner:

If it's, "do I want them to giggle,' whatever that is.

Alexy Posner:

I hope people leave a conversation with me and they're like, "She was just a bright

Alexy Posner:

light of wacky energy." And, that's… I have hot pink in my brand for a reason.

Alexy Posner:

So to flip back to your point, there's no, age or moment or followership.

Alexy Posner:

It's really just, "Hey, I'm now really serious and dedicated to doing something

Alexy Posner:

bigger than just showing up every day."

Scott Leese:

And is there a particular platform

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Hmm.

Scott Leese:

…or process that's right for each person?

Scott Leese:

Or is it more generalized, no, everybody should attack it this kind of way?

Scott Leese:

if you were gonna build a brand for me

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Sure.

Scott Leese:

And then Mike separate

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Is it, this is the roadmap?

Scott Leese:

Or is it, "No, no, no, no. Scott goes this way, Mike goes that way."

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Here's the reasons why.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, I think it depends on who the consumer is

Alexy Posner:

that you guys are trying to reach.

Alexy Posner:

For YouTube specifically, we would dive into what's your listenership

Alexy Posner:

and where are they living and where are they consuming that information?

Alexy Posner:

But the short answer is, only do as much as you're gonna do well, right?

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Alexy Posner:

So, Brandon Cooks, worked with him for a very long

Alexy Posner:

time, and he's like, "Ooh, should we start a YouTube channel?" And we've

Alexy Posner:

got all these really cool ideas.

Alexy Posner:

We really wanna start a YouTube channel.

Alexy Posner:

Now we're sitting down and going, what does that actually mean to be successful?

Alexy Posner:

And can we can make a commitment to the success of that?

Scott Leese:

Can you do it right?

Alexy Posner:

And if not, let's not do it.

Alexy Posner:

I would rather somebody only run a TikTok or an Instagram or

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

A Facebook or whatever that is.

Alexy Posner:

You gotta do it right, you know?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Versus, it's that very simple concept.

Alexy Posner:

I'd rather dig a 100 foot hole than 100 one-foot holes.

Scott Leese:

I have a little bit of Brandon Cooks' PTSD right now.

Mike Lindstrom:

A little bit.

Scott Leese:

He's the one that caught the ball.

Alexy Posner:

HE *CAUGHT* THE BALL.

Alexy Posner:

Let's double down on that statement

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Very clearly caught the ball.

Alexy Posner:

…please.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you.

Scott Leese:

But, uh

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Very

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: The referees in Denver decided otherwise.

Mike Lindstrom:

I watched the camp.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

It's tough.

Scott Leese:

There's a lot of PTSD.

Scott Leese:

There's a lot of Buffalo PTSD happening.

Mike Lindstrom:

That week, after we were filming, this guy was a mess.

Mike Lindstrom:

I couldn't even talk to him.

Mike Lindstrom:

I couldn't even look at it.

Alexy Posner:

That was

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: That's fair.

Alexy Posner:

That game, I sat there and I was just in shock.

Scott Leese:

Tell Brandon I'm with him.

Scott Leese:

Tell Brandon I'm with him.

Alexy Posner:

I will let him know.

Alexy Posner:

Well, fingers crossed, maybe we end up back in Buffalo.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's where I look at some leagues and go, "Hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

Just wondering how that happened." You know in the NBA, everyone

Mike Lindstrom:

wants game six, game seven, because NBA wants to make that money.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

They don't wanna sweep ever.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So you always question it.

Scott Leese:

Yeah, you're always hmm

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: That was a catch.

Scott Leese:

That was a catch, by the way.

Scott Leese:

That was a catch.

Mike Lindstrom:

All right.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, podcasts.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm curious.

Scott Leese:

Yes.

Mike Lindstrom:

So that's, I mean, we started ours six months ago.

Scott Leese:

Yeah

Mike Lindstrom:

and it was something we've talked about for a long time, and

Mike Lindstrom:

we've done it in our own independent ways.

Mike Lindstrom:

We said, "Let's do this. Let's push all in."

Alexy Posner:

That's awesome.

Mike Lindstrom:

Somebody comes to you and says, "I wanna do a podcast." Or

Mike Lindstrom:

you, by the way, you're an amazing brand.

Mike Lindstrom:

You should have your own podcast.

Alexy Posner:

[laughing]

Mike Lindstrom:

Right?

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm not coaching you, but you could.

Mike Lindstrom:

You could easily do it.

Alexy Posner:

Thank you.

Mike Lindstrom:

You could bring all these famous people in.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have a great personality.

Alexy Posner:

Thanks.

Mike Lindstrom:

What's your stance on that from a branding marketing perspective?

Mike Lindstrom:

Once people are coming to you and saying, "Hey, I need to do a podcast,

Mike Lindstrom:

because everyone's doing a podcast."

Alexy Posner:

My first question would be, "What's your social look like?

Alexy Posner:

'Cause I think podcasts in general now, what we've seen across the

Alexy Posner:

board is there's less consumption of a podcast for the entire episode.

Alexy Posner:

And more the strategy is, can you create 10 to 12 clips per episode that

Alexy Posner:

live successfully on Instagram and TikTok specifically and YouTube shorts

Alexy Posner:

that give people the understanding of what has just happened in that episode

Alexy Posner:

without them actually watching it?

Alexy Posner:

And honestly, that's where the brands are also looking at.

Alexy Posner:

I think once you want the brand engagement in terms of the money

Alexy Posner:

side, it's like 200,000 downloads, 100,000, 150,000 downloads.

Alexy Posner:

But really where someone who's wanting to start a podcast could move the needle,

Alexy Posner:

I look at our Swifty Lifty Club account.

Alexy Posner:

We have 5,000 followers.

Alexy Posner:

I started it January 1st.

Alexy Posner:

Wow.

Alexy Posner:

We have really focused on that.

Alexy Posner:

And in the last three months, the views are like 850,000 views.

Alexy Posner:

Our engagement is bananas.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

And so, because we've put a lot of focus and energy

Alexy Posner:

and attention on building that.

Alexy Posner:

And so I think if you wanna do a podcast, my first question is, how's your social?

Alexy Posner:

What's your social and what's your plan on social?

Alexy Posner:

'Cause that's really where you're gonna see actual success for the time.

Alexy Posner:

Otherwise, you're just talking for an hour.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, I think people don't realize how hard it is.

Alexy Posner:

So hard.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, you, Scott and I didn't realize that.

Scott Leese:

Well, I think people don't realize there's a strategy behind it all.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's not what you do.

Scott Leese:

It's more than just, "Turn the camera on, record something.

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: No.

Scott Leese:

…and then let's see what happens." Like, "oh, that one went off.

Scott Leese:

It went viral.

Scott Leese:

We're onto something."

Mike Lindstrom:

Well, the challenge is you got people like Gary Vaynerchuk,

Mike Lindstrom:

who I love Gary V, he's awesome.

Mike Lindstrom:

Gary's always "Just record it, put it out there. Record it, put it out there.

Mike Lindstrom:

You need content, content, content."

Mike Lindstrom:

And I think people were just getting brainwashed with that

Mike Lindstrom:

with Instagram and TikTok.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

And they were "Oh, I can do it. Gary Vaynerchuk said I

Mike Lindstrom:

could do it." But there's more to it.

Mike Lindstrom:

There's

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…there's gotta be a person like you behind saying, "Team,

Mike Lindstrom:

time out. There's a strategy here."

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're not just because you can catch a football, it doesn't

Mike Lindstrom:

mean you can go have a podcast.

Alexy Posner:

Right.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to have something behind it.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I was just curious, your take on that.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, It's a super saturated market as we all know,

Alexy Posner:

but there's always room, right?

Alexy Posner:

And I think that was the biggest thing for me even when I was starting my company.

Alexy Posner:

I made a commitment to, if you, again, walk through the world thinking,

Alexy Posner:

it's already full up top and there's no space, there will be no space.

Alexy Posner:

And so kinda same thing.

Alexy Posner:

Yes, podcasts.

Alexy Posner:

we know it's a super saturated market.

Alexy Posner:

So figure out where the space is.

Alexy Posner:

What's the window there for you?

Alexy Posner:

And what's a little different that you're gonna take what lens are you taking there?

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

And then have an actual strategy on execution behind it.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

last piece is, a continued commitment to that

Alexy Posner:

strategy because you're gonna fail.

Alexy Posner:

We have videos that flop on our Swifty page.

Alexy Posner:

And I'm so excited.

Alexy Posner:

I think this is gonna be the best video ever.

Alexy Posner:

And then it totally flops.

Alexy Posner:

there are moments where I have to be "Okay, recommit. Let's go." So I'd say

Alexy Posner:

that also with the podcast side too.

Mike Lindstrom:

Well, we've had that same thing, where we

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: The opposite happens.

Mike Lindstrom:

We post some stuff.

Mike Lindstrom:

Where you post something

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Oh yeah opposite of course.

Mike Lindstrom:

Just Completely random.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I'm like, "Oh, that's gonna go nowhere." And next thing you know, it's

Mike Lindstrom:

like, "did we get a million views on this thing?" I'm like, you know the one,

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Last month that you did.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm "What the hell?"

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Boy, I gotta check this out.

Mike Lindstrom:

But you're touching a nerve.

Alexy Posner:

Gotta check it.

Mike Lindstrom:

You touch a nerve with people.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, but you never know.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So when you overthink it and you try to be over strategic

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Those are the ones that usually backfire.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

And sometimes the algorithm just doesn't work in your favor.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Don't listen to this phone.

Alexy Posner:

I'm like, let me just block my phone while I say that

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: [laughing]

Alexy Posner:

I'm like, "I love you, Instagram."

Scott Leese:

[laughing]

Alexy Posner:

"Keep, keep favoring my videos."

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing] I gotta ask you about horses.

Mike Lindstrom:

So how'd that come into your life?

Mike Lindstrom:

My dad owned horses in California.

Alexy Posner:

Cool.

Alexy Posner:

Standardbreds or thoroughbreds?

Mike Lindstrom:

So thoroughbreds, yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

He was in Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, Del Mar, some

Mike Lindstrom:

of the West Coast, Santa Anita.

Mike Lindstrom:

How'd that happen?

Alexy Posner:

It's so crazy.

Alexy Posner:

This feels like a lifetime ago, so we've been talking about it.

Alexy Posner:

It's so bizarre.

Alexy Posner:

But my grandpa put me on a pony when I was three years old, and

Alexy Posner:

I basically just never got off.

Alexy Posner:

He bred standardbreds and raised standardbreds and against my

Alexy Posner:

mother's want, I was three and he literally popped me up on a pony.

Alexy Posner:

And he bought me my first pony, Molly McButter, and I fell in love.

Alexy Posner:

So, yeah, I love, love horses.

Alexy Posner:

And it was the best way I could have ever possibly grown up.

Alexy Posner:

And then became very competitive and would spend my summers in Europe

Alexy Posner:

competing, my winters in Wellington, which is why I graduated really young.

Alexy Posner:

I graduated at 16 from high school.

Alexy Posner:

And then, thankfully, I went to Franklin and Marshall, and they were

Alexy Posner:

a little flexy on my class schedule.

Alexy Posner:

So, during the winter semester, I would take class on Monday afternoons,

Alexy Posner:

Tuesdays, and Wednesday mornings, and I would be in Florida the rest of the week.

Alexy Posner:

So, I was flying back and forth and I've kinda lived on an airplane.

Alexy Posner:

I still live on an airplane.

Alexy Posner:

Seat 1F or 8C are my two seats on American.

Alexy Posner:

I'm still waiting for my sponsorship.

Scott Leese:

That's funny how you have certain seat slots.

Mike Lindstrom:

Oh, yeah.

Scott Leese:

You have certain seats?

Alexy Posner:

If I don't sit in those two seats, I'm like, "What's up?"

Scott Leese:

Feels weird, right?

Alexy Posner:

It's very strange.

Alexy Posner:

When you fly as much as we probably all do.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

[laughing]

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, so that's where the horses came from.

Mike Lindstrom:

Do you still go out and… is that your solace?

Mike Lindstrom:

Is that where you

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: No, I technically retired when I was 21 and I rode for

Mike Lindstrom:

a private family up until about 25.

Mike Lindstrom:

And then, actually, when I was starting AP Brand Group, I knew I needed to

Mike Lindstrom:

make money, so I bartended, and then I worked on a farm, and mucked stalls

Mike Lindstrom:

to kinda just keep money coming in as I was starting AP Brand Group.

Mike Lindstrom:

But yeah, the plan, maybe when I turn 40.

Mike Lindstrom:

Right now, I'm 35.

Mike Lindstrom:

I've got a lot on my plate, and I don't know… if I could get back into it

Mike Lindstrom:

and not be uber competitive with it.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, I think I would really struggle not being good.

Mike Lindstrom:

So, yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

You seem like the kind of person that you're all in.

Alexy Posner:

Yes.

Alexy Posner:

I'm it's a zero or it's a hundred.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I'm trying to work on the middles.

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing]

Scott Leese:

Yeah, we all are.

Alexy Posner:

Not my strength.

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing]

Scott Leese:

Not my strength either.

Alexy Posner:

Not my strength.

Alexy Posner:

[laughing] Either all in or all out, you know?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing]

Scott Leese:

I've been told many times you have two speed Scott

Scott Leese:

dead stop or full speed ahead.

Alexy Posner:

Yes.

Scott Leese:

That's it.

Alexy Posner:

And honestly, I'm kind of okay with that.

Scott Leese:

I have been okay with it for most of my life, but now I'm getting

Scott Leese:

to an age where I'm maybe that's not

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: How old are you now?

Scott Leese:

Only way.

Scott Leese:

I turn 49 at the end of the month.

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Scott Leese:

I got you, I Got you.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm 53.

Mike Lindstrom:

At the end.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah

Scott Leese:

That's one of the hard things about scaling your

Scott Leese:

own business, which I'm sure

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…you're running into is, how do you scale yourself?

Scott Leese:

And, and how do you make these decisions in terms of "that would make sense

Scott Leese:

for the business, but I don't know if that makes sense for me right now."

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I think sticking to the non-negotiables, for me, I wake up at 4:44 every morning.

Alexy Posner:

I have to work out every morning, first thing.

Alexy Posner:

And so really knowing what are my non-negotiables that set

Alexy Posner:

me up personally for success.

Alexy Posner:

I stopped drinking two years ago, so just kinda being in environments that

Alexy Posner:

I know maybe are not kinda conducive to where I'm at personally now.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Really sticking to the non-negotiables has helped me a lot.

Alexy Posner:

So that, even if I'm waking up in Austin or I'm waking up in London, having

Alexy Posner:

my set morning non-negotiables is.

Alexy Posner:

And first thing I do, even if I stay in a hotel, is make my bed.

Alexy Posner:

Before I put my contacts in, I'm so weird.

Alexy Posner:

I always make the bed because I start the day with an accomplishment,

Alexy Posner:

and then it's a really positive moment, and I'm like, "Hell yeah."

Scott Leese:

Gotta win, not

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Good job.

Scott Leese:

Gotta win on the books before I can even see a darn thing, you know?

Mike Lindstrom:

Do you make your bed when you wake up?

Scott Leese:

I don't.

Mike Lindstrom:

You don't.

Alexy Posner:

Dude, what are you doing?

Mike Lindstrom:

Are you serious?

Scott Leese:

I don't.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm with her.

Alexy Posner:

You have to start your day.

Mike Lindstrom:

100%.

Alexy Posner:

'Cause it automatically gives you that dopamine

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Every day.

Alexy Posner:

…hit where you're

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: I understand the psychology Behind it

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Even at a hotel.

Scott Leese:

I do.

Alexy Posner:

Even in a hotel.

Mike Lindstrom:

Even in a hotel.

Alexy Posner:

Always reorganized nice.

Alexy Posner:

And then I'm like, "And now, lt's start the day!"

Mike Lindstrom:

When I leave a hotel, the maids must come

Mike Lindstrom:

in and go, This dude's nuts.

Mike Lindstrom:

'Cause it's clean.

Mike Lindstrom:

Towels are in one little pile over here.

Mike Lindstrom:

I put the tip by the TV.

Mike Lindstrom:

Everything's in the order of which I came in.

Mike Lindstrom:

Right?

Alexy Posner:

Yep.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

I'm a little more chaos, but in an organized way.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So what's the next chapter?

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm thinking ahead, because

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: What's the next chapter?

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm a little bit older.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm a little bit older, right?

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I'm thinking, okay, when I was her age,

Mike Lindstrom:

what was I thinking about?

Mike Lindstrom:

I always think about life in fives.

Mike Lindstrom:

The 35, 40, 45, 50.

Mike Lindstrom:

Next stop for me is 55.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So what's the next chapter for you?

Mike Lindstrom:

I gotta get this.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, I'm definitely trying to find my husband,

Alexy Posner:

so if you guys know anybody

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Okay.

Alexy Posner:

Let me know on that.

Alexy Posner:

[laughing] On a professional side, it's been really cool.

Alexy Posner:

I have an amazing VP, Ashley.

Alexy Posner:

She's been with me for three years, and she has grown and developed

Alexy Posner:

into such a powerhouse herself.

Alexy Posner:

And so that is allowing me to scale.

Alexy Posner:

It's allowing me to kind of pursue other passions.

Alexy Posner:

It's allowing me to send a step in other directions, and actually explore

Alexy Posner:

a personal life for the first time ever in my life, which is really,

Alexy Posner:

really nice because I've kind of built and poured everything into

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

The business side.

Alexy Posner:

But yeah, next five years, keep growing AP Brand Group.

Alexy Posner:

We've got a very, very, very exciting project for Rick on the books right now.

Alexy Posner:

So we are working on a movie for him with Seven Bucks.

Alexy Posner:

I did the deal with Dwayne Johnson's team, and

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: That's great!

Alexy Posner:

So we'll have a movie that is gonna be a grand success.

Alexy Posner:

You will see that in that five-year plan, hopefully in the year and a half plan.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're, we're big fans.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we had Mark Kerr, who at the Smashing Machine

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Sat on that couch

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Cool.

Mike Lindstrom:

…with his wife, Franci, last year.

Mike Lindstrom:

And

Mike Lindstrom:

- Alexy Posner: Cool.

Mike Lindstrom:

He told so many cool stories about Dwayne Johnson.

Mike Lindstrom:

He calls them DJs

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, DJ, yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

The best guy and this, that and the other.

Mike Lindstrom:

But to picture somebody's life story, Rick or Mark Kerr for that example.

Alexy Posner:

It's been an honor of my career, for sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

But to be a part of that.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's so cool.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

It's been a long road and has taught me a lot of patience, but has definitely

Alexy Posner:

been an honor in my career being able to move that across the finish line.

Alexy Posner:

And the coolest moment was two years ago when the deal was done

Alexy Posner:

that I did with Seven Bucks.

Alexy Posner:

F irst of all, the press release came out, and it was my name was at the

Alexy Posner:

bottom of it, "Done by Alexy Posner and AP Brand Group." I was like

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: So good.

Alexy Posner:

…I made it.

Alexy Posner:

But DJ sent me and Rick a voice note and was like, "Hey, Lexi.

Alexy Posner:

Hey, Rick.

Alexy Posner:

It's The Rock here." And I was like, "Do I have his personal cell phone number?

Alexy Posner:

This is insane!"

Scott Leese:

[laughing]

Alexy Posner:

So, yeah, it's been

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Who's gonna.

Alexy Posner:

Do you know who's gonna direct it?

Alexy Posner:

Nope.

Mike Lindstrom:

Is it Safdie or?

Alexy Posner:

No, not yet.

Alexy Posner:

We've got a lot of very cool things in the works, and I'll give you guys an update

Alexy Posner:

when we get to a place that I can - Yes.

Scott Leese:

Well, before we wrap up

Scott Leese:

- Alexy Posner: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Tell everybody about the next Swifty event here

Alexy Posner:

So sweet.

Alexy Posner:

I mean, please cheer for all of my clients during the football season.

Alexy Posner:

so Mack Hollins, Brandon Cooks, fingers crossed.

Alexy Posner:

I don't know where he's landing yet.

Alexy Posner:

Well, we do, but I can't say anything yet.

Alexy Posner:

Okay.

Alexy Posner:

Jake Martin.

Alexy Posner:

I've got some amazing clients, Rucci Brothers.

Alexy Posner:

They're really cool.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah, so please cheer for all of them.

Alexy Posner:

In terms of upcoming stuff, Swifty Lifty Club is on the road.

Alexy Posner:

Alexy Posner:

Alexy Posner:

Alexy Posner:

If you're a Swifty, go there.

Alexy Posner:

Mike Lindstrom:

All right.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I always love asking this question.

Mike Lindstrom:

Favorite book that ever influenced you in your life?

Alexy Posner:

[laughing] These are two separate

Alexy Posner:

- Mike Lindstrom: Okay.

Alexy Posner:

…answers.

Alexy Posner:

Favorite book is Harry Potter.

Alexy Posner:

I've read them all 20-some times.

Mike Lindstrom:

Wow.

Alexy Posner:

22 times straight through.

Alexy Posner:

Stop looking at me like that.

Alexy Posner:

The amount of judgment that I have gotten from this man, he is sitting here like

Alexy Posner:

- Scott Leese: Well, to be fair she, she walked in and had a

Mike Lindstrom:

she's

Scott Leese:

Soccer shirt on and she's like, I don't like soccer."

Alexy Posner:

[laughing] I was like, "I just don't get it. I

Alexy Posner:

don't get it. I gotta get in on-"

Scott Leese:

I don't get Harry Potter.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's all good.

Mike Lindstrom:

All right.

Scott Leese:

Don't get Harry Potter.

Alexy Posner:

We're just gonna take him out of the conversation for just a second.

Mike Lindstrom:

We'll, we'll deal with this in post.

Mike Lindstrom:

We'll just delete that part.

Alexy Posner:

Holy moly.

Alexy Posner:

No, so I'm Harry Potter.

Alexy Posner:

The book that influenced me the most, it's two books.

Alexy Posner:

I couldn't narrow it down.

Alexy Posner:

The Four Agreements and The Alchemist.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yes.

Alexy Posner:

Yeah.

Alexy Posner:

Alchemist.

Alexy Posner:

So both of those,

Mike Lindstrom:

you're an

Alexy Posner:

Alchemist.

Alexy Posner:

Yes.

Alexy Posner:

Big, big, big, big, big fan of The Alchemist.

Alexy Posner:

I recommend reading it in book on tape.

Alexy Posner:

Jim Dale, who also does the Harry Potter books, narrates it on the

Alexy Posner:

audiobook, and it is magnificent.

Alexy Posner:

And then of course, The Four Agreements.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, Four Agreements are great.

Alexy Posner:

Life-changing.

Alexy Posner:

Love it.

Mike Lindstrom:

Go stuff.

Scott Leese:

Well, we thank you.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yes.

Alexy Posner:

Thanks for having me.

Alexy Posner:

A lot of fun.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's good.

Mike Lindstrom:

Absolutely.

Scott Leese:

The banter was great.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Has a little bit of Philly, a little bit of New York,

Scott Leese:

going back and back and forth.

Mike Lindstrom:

I like Philly, man.

Mike Lindstrom:

Come on.

Scott Leese:

Well, thank you everybody for joining us on this episode

Scott Leese:
