Mike Lindstrom and Scott Leese started What's Your Story on the side of the road after a blown tire.

51 episodes later they unpack the podcast mistakes that almost killed Year One.

No guest. No script.

Just the two of them on the couch talking about a lunch with Dan Lier, a dead spare, and the moment Mike said "maybe they should just start a podcast."

They did. Dave Skatchard sat down first and talked about concussions and addiction. Ian Lopatin talked about surrender.

The downloads came later. So did the sponsors, the YouTube benchmarks, and the days they forgot to order lunch.

This is the season finale. Year One in the rearview. Year Two still unwritten.

Mike Lindstrom:

So Dave Skatchard, took a chance on us and he came

Mike Lindstrom:

in and sat in that chair and just totally got real about his life

Mike Lindstrom:

and his concussions and, addiction.

Mike Lindstrom:

And that was the first episode, the first taping, really.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I sat there

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…on this side and thought, "My God, this guy's talking about

Mike Lindstrom:

some real shit." And then Ian Lopatin comes in and talks about he's almost

Mike Lindstrom:

one year into his sobriety, he talked about surrender, which Dave talked about.

Mike Lindstrom:

And those kind of things, I come home and I thought, I

Mike Lindstrom:

need to start paying attention.

Mike Lindstrom:

These are God winks for me.

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

You know, my life's good.

Mike Lindstrom:

I've got great things, but I can always be better.

Mike Lindstrom:

Intro Band: Lean in closer. This is your time.

Mike Lindstrom:

Hit record on your crooked

Mike Lindstrom:

life. What's your story?

Mike Lindstrom:

(Hey!) Say the words out loud!

Mike Lindstrom:

Mike & Scott gonna crack that crowd.

Mike Lindstrom:

What's your story? (Hey!) Turn it up, let's go!

Mike Lindstrom:

Every voice. Every scar.

Mike Lindstrom:

Every road. What's your story?

Mike Lindstrom:

Mike and Scott.

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's talk.

Scott Leese:

What's up, everybody?

Scott Leese:

Welcome to another episode of the "What's Your Story?" Podcast.

Scott Leese:

I'm Scott Leese, here with my good friend and co-host, Mike Lindstrom.

Scott Leese:

We've got a really special show today.

Scott Leese:

It is actually our one-year anniversary.

Mike Lindstrom:

Ooh, one year?

Scott Leese:

Shout out to Mike.

Mike Lindstrom:

Shout out.

Mike Lindstrom:

One year, man.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I can't believe that.

Scott Leese:

We did it.

Mike Lindstrom:

I know, man.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

It was, actually little over a year ago.

Scott Leese:

It's in the summer.

Scott Leese:

I think it was in July of last year, out in Austin, Texas, and Mike and

Scott Leese:

I were having lunch with, Dan Lier, who actually one of our, guests.

Scott Leese:

I can't remember which episode number, but not too long ago.

Scott Leese:

And Mike had to get out to, see some friends just outside of Austin,

Scott Leese:

and he was gonna take an Uber.

Scott Leese:

I'm like, that's not, you don't need to take an Uber.

Scott Leese:

I'll drive you out there." So we're driving out there.

Scott Leese:

It's like 45-minute drive or so, and I blew a tire

Scott Leese:

[laughing] on the way out there.

Scott Leese:

Of course, as fate would have it, no good deed goes unpunished.

Scott Leese:

I didn't have a spare or the spare was in bad shape.

Scott Leese:

I don't think I had a spare.

Scott Leese:

Anyways, so I had to call AAA.

Scott Leese:

So we're sitting there on the side of the road and, just catching up and, we

Scott Leese:

were talking about, "Man, it's about time we did something in business

Scott Leese:

together." And Mike was the one who hit on, "Well, maybe we should do a podcast.

Scott Leese:

You know, I know you've done one before and, Mike does all these speaking

Scott Leese:

engagements and things like this.

Scott Leese:

We should put together a podcast." So real quick, we said, "Yeah, let's do that."

Scott Leese:

So that was in July.

Scott Leese:

So by August, like one year right now, it's, I don't know when this is

Scott Leese:

gonna air, but it's August right now.

Scott Leese:

I flew out to Arizona.

Scott Leese:

We met up, came into the NectarFlow office here in Scottsdale.

Scott Leese:

Shout out to NectarFlow, who's one of our, sponsors.

Scott Leese:

And we started recording.

Scott Leese:

We recorded 10, 11 episodes.

Scott Leese:

Dave Skatchard was our first episode that we ever recorded.

Scott Leese:

So it's a special time and, you know

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Wanted to kinda commemorate it a little bit.

Mike Lindstrom:

I was thinking about that actually in preparation

Mike Lindstrom:

for us getting together today.

Mike Lindstrom:

So much in the podcast world has changed.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, it's just amazing how quick things have happened in

Mike Lindstrom:

12 months in the podcast world.

Mike Lindstrom:

Like everyone's kinda getting into podcasting a year ago, but now

Mike Lindstrom:

everyone's like, "Oh, I gotta podcast. Gotta have a podcast." And that

Mike Lindstrom:

was not where you and I came from.

Mike Lindstrom:

We weren't in that mindset business-wise when, Hey, we're in FOMO, we need

Mike Lindstrom:

a podcast." It wasn't like that.

Mike Lindstrom:

We knew all the big names were out there.

Mike Lindstrom:

We were inspired because we're fans of them, but there was never a

Mike Lindstrom:

part of us like that had that FOMO.

Mike Lindstrom:

It was honestly from genuine care, love, compassion, the message that

Mike Lindstrom:

you and I teach our clients is like, "Hey, why don't you and I get together,

Mike Lindstrom:

get some of our clients out here, our friends out here, and just talk

Mike Lindstrom:

openly." now it's become, "Holy crap, we're getting judged by downloads and

Mike Lindstrom:

views and all the stuff that you and I had no clue about 12 months ago."

Scott Leese:

Talking about some of the, the metrics, we've done well

Scott Leese:

north of a million impressions

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Across all the different platforms.

Scott Leese:

We've done pretty well on Instagram in particular

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

In terms of our real views and stuff like that.

Scott Leese:

The number of subscribers and followers to the show continues to go up.

Scott Leese:

We're into the thousands on YouTube now, for example.

Scott Leese:

I didn't, I don't know.

Scott Leese:

I barely know now what some of the benchmarks are that are,

Mike Lindstrom:

They changed by the week.

Scott Leese:

Success or whatever.

Mike Lindstrom:

They're changing by the week.

Scott Leese:

Changing all the time.

Mike Lindstrom:

But that's one thing I really enjoyed about when we agreed to

Mike Lindstrom:

unite, because we have such unique worlds.

Mike Lindstrom:

Me being in, the insurance, financial space, you're go-to-market & tech.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we were bring our separate brands together and that still counts.

Mike Lindstrom:

If you did a collective of.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we've never done that by the for, by the way.

Mike Lindstrom:

If you took all of your socials

Scott Leese:

Uh-huh.

Mike Lindstrom:

All of my socials, all of our databases, which would include

Mike Lindstrom:

emails and everything, and added them up, and that's just contacts.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I don't even know.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's a lot.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's a lot.

Scott Leese:

It's pretty big reach and it keeps growing actually.

Mike Lindstrom:

It keeps growing every single month.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, at the beginning, especially with the podcast, our stuff was always going a

Mike Lindstrom:

direction it was within our niches, right?

Mike Lindstrom:

Cause we had built those.

Mike Lindstrom:

But with the podcast, it's such a slow thing.

Mike Lindstrom:

And then it was that 90-day mark and started to go like this,

Mike Lindstrom:

but then of course we brought on Robert, you know, Robert McLaws

Mike Lindstrom:

came on as our Executive Producer and things started to go like this.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We weren't leaning into YouTube at all, zero until 90 days ago.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Now we see you start hitting those benchmarks, you

Mike Lindstrom:

gotta get to a thousand subscribers that haven't even sniff you.

Mike Lindstrom:

Then you get, 3,000 minutes of view time.

Mike Lindstrom:

They start to sniff you.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we're hitting all these benchmarks slowly but surely, but it's now not

Mike Lindstrom:

just, "Hey, we're on the side of the road. Let's go do a podcast."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's like a strategy.

Mike Lindstrom:

And now we have sponsorships.

Mike Lindstrom:

We got

Mike Lindstrom:

-  Scott Leese: I know.

Mike Lindstrom:

…e3 Wealth.

Scott Leese:

We've grown up a little bit.

Mike Lindstrom:

NectarFlow supporting us.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we have companies that are coming to us saying, "Hey, we wanna be

Mike Lindstrom:

a part of this vision." So to me, it's not just the passion of what we talk about.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's beyond that.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's the responsibility I feel like we owe everybody, not just our guests,

Mike Lindstrom:

our sponsors, but, our brands ourself.

Mike Lindstrom:

We've stayed true to our form.

Scott Leese:

How do you feel you've changed in the last year, if at all?

Scott Leese:

Through this

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Experience?

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, that's a great question.

Mike Lindstrom:

I think from day one, and I mean this, Dave Skatchard, We don't

Mike Lindstrom:

do prep questions for people.

Mike Lindstrom:

They don't get, questions.

Scott Leese:

They don't know what's coming.

Mike Lindstrom:

They don't know.

Mike Lindstrom:

So Dave Skatchard, took a chance on us and he came in and sat in that chair

Mike Lindstrom:

and just totally got real about his life and his concussions and, addiction.

Mike Lindstrom:

And that was the first episode, the first taping, really.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I sat there

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…on this side and thought, "My God, this guy's

Mike Lindstrom:

talking about some real shit." And then Ian Lopatin comes in and talks

Mike Lindstrom:

about he's almost one year into his sobriety, which I didn't even know.

Mike Lindstrom:

He's founder of Spiritual Gangster.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I gave him a big hug after the recording and said, "Dude,

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm really proud of you.

Mike Lindstrom:

I knew you in your fun days.

Mike Lindstrom:

I knew you in your party days.

Mike Lindstrom:

I've done some of those things with you.

Mike Lindstrom:

And now to see, and listen to you on the chair talk about, giving it

Mike Lindstrom:

up to the Lord or to his future." We talk about forgiveness or,

Mike Lindstrom:

what's the word I'm thinking of?

Mike Lindstrom:

Surrender.

Mike Lindstrom:

He talked about surrender, which Dave talked about.

Mike Lindstrom:

And those kind of things, I come home and I thought I need

Mike Lindstrom:

to start paying attention.

Mike Lindstrom:

These are God winks for me.

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

You know, my life's good.

Mike Lindstrom:

I've got great things, but I can always be better.

Mike Lindstrom:

And when I'm listening to people like a Dave or an Ian and watching them open

Mike Lindstrom:

up and be real and authentic, it made me wanna be more real and authentic

Mike Lindstrom:

with myself about some of those things.

Mike Lindstrom:

So it's inspired me.

Mike Lindstrom:

Even listening to your guy talk about peptides and longevity.

Scott Leese:

Yeah, Nick Capozzi.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, Nick Capozzi.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I started thinking, man, I'm gonna be 53.

Mike Lindstrom:

This is at the time I'm 53 now.

Mike Lindstrom:

I need to start doing more of that stuff.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I have.

Mike Lindstrom:

I've started incorporating a lot of the things.

Mike Lindstrom:

I just got off of a five-day water fast recently.

Mike Lindstrom:

People talking about the stuff inspired that.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

A year ago, I wasn't d oing that type of stuff.

Scott Leese:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Think about longevity differently because the guests come in

Mike Lindstrom:

here and teach us, listen to John Moriarty

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Talk about how you talk to your kids about money and wealth.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

How do I not go home and think, "You know what? I need

Mike Lindstrom:

to think about my approach a little differently with Rhett and Colt

Mike Lindstrom:

because John makes some good points around scarcity and abundance and what

Mike Lindstrom:

you should talk to about your kids." it's like we're bringing people on

Mike Lindstrom:

the show, but they're our, teachers.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

That's one of the, best parts of being a podcast host is you have the opportunity

Scott Leese:

to learn from an expert, basically

Mike Lindstrom:

The best of their trade!

Scott Leese:

In what, in whatever their field is.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

You have the opportunity to sit across from them

Scott Leese:

and learn from them for an hour.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Right?

Scott Leese:

That's a blessing that a lot of people don't get.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, you flash back in your mind and think

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…of all the, every single person.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, if we had somebody flashcard us, "Hey, what about Sharon Lecter?"

Scott Leese:

Yeah, what'd you learn from this?

Scott Leese:

What'd you learn there?

Mike Lindstrom:

Every single person I had some major takeaway.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I was re-listening to them recently, actually, in preparation

Mike Lindstrom:

for us getting together.

Mike Lindstrom:

I think I listened to about, probably a dozen of the episodes just here and there.

Mike Lindstrom:

I was listening to a little bit faster, like 1.2, 1.5, because I

Mike Lindstrom:

know generally what we've said.

Mike Lindstrom:

Hearing it again though, even after nine months or a year, I go back and think, "Oh

Mike Lindstrom:

man, I forgot about that. That's a great quote. Or that's a great line." So for

Mike Lindstrom:

me, it's that, but I'd be curious to know for you, how have you changed other than

Mike Lindstrom:

what's going on in your life landscape, how have some of the things impacted you?

Scott Leese:

Yeah, I think, we said in the beginning, let's give it a year and

Scott Leese:

see how we're, we're doing or whatever.

Mike Lindstrom:

And how we feel about it.

Scott Leese:

Right?

Scott Leese:

So for me, the, verdict or the scoreboard, if you will, is like,

Scott Leese:

we've done much better than I expected

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…frankly.

Scott Leese:

The quality of guests, the caliber of the interviews, the actual KPIs

Scott Leese:

in terms of downloads, subscribers, impressions, all this kind of stuff.

Scott Leese:

The kind of professionalism that we're applying behind the scenes with Robert,

Scott Leese:

with Christian who does the filming that has been a s a surprise to me, I think.

Scott Leese:

And just, I feel, proud of the caliber of the, work that we've done.

Scott Leese:

So that's changed me in the sense of, I need to take this kind of seriously.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

You know, I can't, this is not just like a, hey,

Scott Leese:

turn the microphone on and

Mike Lindstrom:

That's right.

Scott Leese:

Goof around and see what happens.

Scott Leese:

Like no, that you said earlier there's a responsibility here and it's like,

Scott Leese:

"Okay, there's a business coming, from this, right?" So that, that

Scott Leese:

part has changed me quite a bit.

Scott Leese:

And then just the learnings, from everybody that you talk to.

Scott Leese:

You know, you talked about applying some health stuff, some financial

Scott Leese:

advice that you get here, career advice here, advice on book, advice

Scott Leese:

on leadership, advice on this.

Scott Leese:

And it's, I go apply those things.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I talked to, Dan Lier a couple weeks ago, about coaching.

Scott Leese:

And not coaching of like life coaching, not coaching about sales or anything.

Scott Leese:

I was talking about coaching soccer and he was talking about coaching basketball.

Scott Leese:

And we were both saying, Man, I wanna kinda go back to my roots a little bit."

Scott Leese:

I'm the assistant men's head soccer coach at Huston-Tillotson University now.

Scott Leese:

And Dan is working on something in Las Vegas and he might be doing that.

Scott Leese:

So you have these conversations, you learn from these people, and

Scott Leese:

then hopefully you go take action the way that we've done on it.

Scott Leese:

So that, those are some really, noticeable ways that it's impacted me, I think.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

The Dan Lier one was a big one.

Mike Lindstrom:

I, since you brought him up, I've known Dan a long time, but, I, and it's always

Mike Lindstrom:

interesting that social media gives us feedback, you know, even though

Mike Lindstrom:

you and I talk about, you know, don't listen to the haters and don't watch the

Mike Lindstrom:

numbers so much or read the comments, when you get a guy like Dan on there

Mike Lindstrom:

who says, he shouldn't even be here.

Mike Lindstrom:

He said, what, a year, then five years to beat amyloidosis, a rare blood disease.

Mike Lindstrom:

And then to be able to say, "Hey, I'm nine years sitting on this couch.

Mike Lindstrom:

No doctor said I would be here at the 10-year mark." And he's sitting here

Mike Lindstrom:

proud saying, "I'm at the nine-year mark and I'm still making it happen."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I walk off that.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, I teared up.

Mike Lindstrom:

You saw it the last episode.

Mike Lindstrom:

I had to listen to it the other day and I'm like, "What's going on in

Mike Lindstrom:

the episode?" I was listening to it and I forgot that I had such an

Mike Lindstrom:

emotional impact on me because I was flashing back in reality of what I've

Mike Lindstrom:

gone through with Dan and his life.

Mike Lindstrom:

So that's what's kind of cool.

Mike Lindstrom:

Went back and re-researched a lot of our guests after the fact, because they

Mike Lindstrom:

brought up stuff that I didn't know about.

Mike Lindstrom:

You know, when Alexy was talking about the movie deal that she's gonna have

Mike Lindstrom:

coming up, which is again, making a movie as we know from Mark Kerr.

Scott Leese:

Sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

That doesn't happen overnight.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

That was a five to seven-year journey to get

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…"The Smashing Machine" where it is.

Mike Lindstrom:

And now Alexy's in a position to work with a guy like Rick Flair with DJ,

Mike Lindstrom:

the Rock, to be able to do something.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'm thinking, "Wow, this is kinda cool." I feel like I'm along for the ride with

Mike Lindstrom:

some of these people and the things that they have coming up in their lives.

Scott Leese:

Yeah, you can become invested in the journey

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, absolutely.

Scott Leese:

Journey a little bit.

Mike Lindstrom:

100%

Scott Leese:

Right?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

100%

Scott Leese:

What are three mistakes that we made that coulda, woulda, shoulda

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…killed us?

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

But didn't.

Scott Leese:

So for anybody listening, Hey, here's three mistakes that we made

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yep.

Scott Leese:

…launching a podcast.

Scott Leese:

Don't make these."

Mike Lindstrom:

Yep.

Mike Lindstrom:

Number one, it's a good thing and a bad thing.

Mike Lindstrom:

Number one, I love about it is we didn't come into this to make money.

Mike Lindstrom:

It wasn't a business strategy.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we didn't really have business guidance.

Mike Lindstrom:

We didn't have somebody like Robert or the coaches that we've surrounded

Mike Lindstrom:

ourself with that are experts in social media, Spotify, messaging.

Mike Lindstrom:

We didn't have that day one.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I think that was kind of the pureness

Mike Lindstrom:

of the show though, honestly.

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

So it was good for the time, but it got us so far that

Mike Lindstrom:

I think both of you and I both knew.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're like, "Okay, that, that got us to this point, but now we need

Mike Lindstrom:

to take it to the next level." So maybe if a, a do-overs you had more

Mike Lindstrom:

guidance and strategy at the beginning.

Mike Lindstrom:

Number two, I had some mishaps with some people marketing and helping us.

Mike Lindstrom:

We don't need to name names, that are no longer with us.

Mike Lindstrom:

They can show you immediate impact.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

They can go out there and promote you on Spotify

Mike Lindstrom:

and do things to kind of trick algorithms, and get your numbers up.

Mike Lindstrom:

And they're all out there, by the way.

Mike Lindstrom:

If you don't know, just do your homework before you align yourselves because

Mike Lindstrom:

people will get you views and downloads and Instagram or whatever that stuff.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I mean, that was a little bit of a misstep, but we learned from it.

Mike Lindstrom:

You were like, "Hey, that didn't hurt the show. It just, it wasn't reality."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

It felt good.

Mike Lindstrom:

It had that dopamine hit to wake up every day and go, "Oh my God, that's

Mike Lindstrom:

a lot of people that just watched our show." And they were watching it, but

Mike Lindstrom:

they weren't watching the same way that we would want them to watch it.

Mike Lindstrom:

So it's just the way the marketing strategy was going there.

Mike Lindstrom:

I would say that.

Mike Lindstrom:

And then the other thing is now we're planning ahead.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to remember at the very beginning, I don't know what episode,

Mike Lindstrom:

let's call it 30, first 30 episodes.

Mike Lindstrom:

I did the editing and put everything out there and we were reacting, Hey, who are

Mike Lindstrom:

we gonna get on in like three weeks?" and that was difficult for both of us.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to fly out here.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to plan with your family.

Mike Lindstrom:

And there's that stress that comes when we're not really planning ahead.

Mike Lindstrom:

Now, we don't do that.

Mike Lindstrom:

We already know the next shoot's gonna be in two and a half months.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're already booking people for two and a half months in advance.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

That makes me breathe, that makes you breathe.

Mike Lindstrom:

You know when that date is.

Mike Lindstrom:

It just takes the onus off of that.

Mike Lindstrom:

I think those are the big three for me, which were stress points,

Mike Lindstrom:

but we learned from those.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

What would you say?

Scott Leese:

Whew.

Mike Lindstrom:

I know you agree with those three, but

Mike Lindstrom:

do you have anything else?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I think not knowing where to focus in terms of which platform, in the beginning

Scott Leese:

we're like, "Should we focus on Apple?

Scott Leese:

Should we focus on Spotify?

Scott Leese:

Should we focus on YouTube?

Scott Leese:

Should we focus on Instagram or whatever?" and I don't think, I don't think we knew.

Mike Lindstrom:

No.

Scott Leese:

So you don't know where to focus, you don't get

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…the right kind of results.

Scott Leese:

So that, I think, coulda, shoulda killed us, metaphorically speaking.

Scott Leese:

We could've taken some of the early feedback of, I don't know if the

Scott Leese:

numbers are not where we wanted them to be like, Oh, this is, not worth it

Scott Leese:

or whatever." so that's number one.

Scott Leese:

I think, the second one is, you always run the risk doing a show the way we

Scott Leese:

do where you're not really, prepping the guests too much, where maybe you

Scott Leese:

ask somebody a question they didn't appreciate or it backfired or whatever

Scott Leese:

or, they felt not prepared at all.

Scott Leese:

And so like, "Hey, you need to, kill that episode.

Scott Leese:

I'm not comfortable with that going out." Or we maybe screwed up and,

Scott Leese:

didn't feel prepared and we're like, I can't release that." Right?

Scott Leese:

So you're toeing the line between improvisation, authenticity,

Scott Leese:

and just winging it too much.

Scott Leese:

So I think, it would've been nice, the level of prep we do now for ourselves,

Scott Leese:

we probably should've done that level of prep upfront in the beginning.

Mike Lindstrom:

Oh, no doubt.

Scott Leese:

Not putting it on the guests.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I think you have to make it real easy for the guests.

Scott Leese:

So that's probably, that's the other thing that probably stands out.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, but I think there was a little element for both of us.

Mike Lindstrom:

I can speak for myself, but I was kinda proud of that at the beginning.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I knew who you were.

Mike Lindstrom:

Look, by the way, we're not sitting there cold.

Mike Lindstrom:

We know your

Scott Leese:

No, no.

Mike Lindstrom:

Background, your title.

Mike Lindstrom:

We know

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

We know enough

Mike Lindstrom:

To be dangerous about the guests.

Mike Lindstrom:

So let's be clear.

Scott Leese:

But we don't have like a 10-page dossier or something like that.

Mike Lindstrom:

No, absolutely.

Mike Lindstrom:

But now we do.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We actually have

Scott Leese:

Yeah, there's actually more than 10 pages now.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We have more questions now that we wanna dig through because we wanna

Mike Lindstrom:

be more strategic in the time.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have to remember for a lot of people that don't know, we only have 50 minutes

Mike Lindstrom:

max, like actually recording time.

Mike Lindstrom:

So when you bring out pauses and ums and ahs and you edit in

Mike Lindstrom:

post, maybe a 50-minute episode ends up at 42 or 40 minutes.

Mike Lindstrom:

So our target is always about 45 minutes of recording time with the guests.

Mike Lindstrom:

That's, it goes by like that.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

There's times, I know we've had a couple people who haven't

Mike Lindstrom:

aired yet where they go, "That's it?

Mike Lindstrom:

We're done?" I'm like, "Yeah, that's it.

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, you just talked about your whole entire life.

Mike Lindstrom:

You talked, you brought us from childhood to college and

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…med school and, your career and your marriage and your kids.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we asked you five great questions and we did rapid fire

Mike Lindstrom:

and yeah, we're outta here."

Scott Leese:

And that was it.

Mike Lindstrom:

But then you watch the final product and it's 33 minutes.

Mike Lindstrom:

I was really happy with, one of the more recent episodes, Susan McGalla

Mike Lindstrom:

who was at Brophy Prep and who had this amazing executive career.

Scott Leese:

That was one of my, that was one of my favorite conversations, by

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: I agree.

Scott Leese:

…the way.

Mike Lindstrom:

I agree.

Scott Leese:

Just from a professional

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: 100%

Scott Leese:

…standpoint, I'm like

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: 100%

Scott Leese:

I wish I would've worked with her for 15, 20 years.

Mike Lindstrom:

I still want to.

Scott Leese:

I know.

Mike Lindstrom:

I still want to.

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing] I saw her recently at a school function and I gave her a big

Mike Lindstrom:

hug and I said, "I'm so proud of you. Like you're not only your life and

Mike Lindstrom:

what you do, but just your authenticity as a professional woman and a mom

Mike Lindstrom:

and how she delivers that stuff." But I was thinking about that show.

Mike Lindstrom:

She covered… and if you watch the final product, I think it was 33 minutes or so.

Mike Lindstrom:

She brought you from beginning to end for kids, all the way through

Mike Lindstrom:

getting married, where she went to college, working for the Steelers.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I'm thinking, "Wow, that's how a podcast quote 'should go'."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

You can cover all that stuff in 30 to 45

Mike Lindstrom:

minutes, but that's not everybody.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's got media training.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's been a CEO.

Mike Lindstrom:

She's a founder.

Mike Lindstrom:

But then you have somebody who's got no media.

Mike Lindstrom:

Look at your guy from ASU.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

You come, you're friend Jon comes in from ASU.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

He's in front of people all the time.

Scott Leese:

Jon McQueen's a professor at Arizona State.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Had a lot of activities

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: First ever podcast appearance.

Mike Lindstrom:

First ever podcast appearance.

Mike Lindstrom:

No formal media training comes

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…on here.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we weren't sure how that would go.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Guess what happens on social media?

Scott Leese:

I can't remember.

Scott Leese:

He's somewhere in the top five in terms of

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: 100%

Scott Leese:

…downloads and impressions and stuff like that.

Mike Lindstrom:

Who knows?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

What's gonna resonate?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

You just never know, man.

Scott Leese:

Should we tell people a little bit about what we're thinking for

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…year two?

Mike Lindstrom:

I think so.

Scott Leese:

Nothing's concrete yet, but

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…maybe give people a little glimpse of a couple

Scott Leese:

ideas that we have for year two.

Mike Lindstrom:

I'd like you to start because

Scott Leese:

Okay.

Mike Lindstrom:

Most people who watch the show should know by now.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're in Scottsdale.

Mike Lindstrom:

I live in Phoenix.

Mike Lindstrom:

You live in Austin, Texas.

Mike Lindstrom:

If you haven't watched the show or you haven't figured that out by now,

Mike Lindstrom:

then you're probably under a rock.

Mike Lindstrom:

But you do live full-time in Austin, Texas.

Mike Lindstrom:

You have a family out there.

Mike Lindstrom:

In case people don't know, that's kinda podcast central.

Mike Lindstrom:

Everyone knows Joe Rogan, all the big guys are out there.

Mike Lindstrom:

People ask, "Why are we not doing stuff in Austin?"

Mike Lindstrom:

So

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…first place outside of Scottsdale would be Austin.

Scott Leese:

Austin.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So what do you envision with that if that's

Mike Lindstrom:

to happen in your backyard?

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I think, I've really enjoyed kinda deep diving into the Phoenix,

Scott Leese:

Scottsdale ecosystem, right?

Scott Leese:

We, we have, 52 guests, roughly, and almost all of them other than a

Scott Leese:

couple live here, they're from here.

Scott Leese:

So one of our ideas we have for year two is, what if we do the show in

Scott Leese:

Austin and just pump 50-something guests from the Austin ecosystem?

Scott Leese:

And who would they be?

Scott Leese:

Which entrepreneurs, which athletes, which musicians, which politicians, which

Scott Leese:

newscasters, which professors, whatever?

Scott Leese:

Same kind of thing.

Scott Leese:

And then we started thinking, we've actually got a big ecosystem in Kansas

Scott Leese:

City, and we've got one in St. Louis that's kind of growing a little bit."

Scott Leese:

And so we're starting to think of, maybe it's not a whole year in one city, but

Scott Leese:

maybe we do 10 episodes in name your town.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

And 10 episodes here and 10 here.

Scott Leese:

And we take the show on the road a little bit, and the natural kind

Scott Leese:

of first choice is probably Austin.

Scott Leese:

So, you know, you can fly to me and we, Love that.

Scott Leese:

There, there's logistical challenges a around it, but it's all solvable.

Scott Leese:

So that's one of the things that we're thinking.

Scott Leese:

Anybody who is a follower of the show, interact with us,

Scott Leese:

tell us where we should go.

Scott Leese:

Tell us

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: And you know what?

Scott Leese:

I

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: …tell us what city to come to and which guests we should get.

Mike Lindstrom:

Now, think about this.

Scott Leese:

We should try to get like

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: We haven't got this far ahead, but now that you're bringing

Scott Leese:

that up, there are certain cities I know that you and I absolutely love.

Scott Leese:

There's some cities that maybe we don't love that are people

Scott Leese:

we're well-networked or we're not.

Scott Leese:

I would love it if we had somebody, whether it's a friend or somebody

Scott Leese:

who sees the show that says, "Hey, Mike, I am the man in Miami.

Scott Leese:

I'm in whatever.

Scott Leese:

Club promotions.

Scott Leese:

I know celebrities, athletes.

Scott Leese:

If you came to Miami for a day and a half, I guarantee you

Scott Leese:

I could fill 12 to 14 guests.

Scott Leese:

That would be amazing.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

We would do it.

Scott Leese:

Yeah, we would.

Mike Lindstrom:

We would do it.

Scott Leese:

That'd be awesome.

Scott Leese:

You know what else I'm thinking of right now?

Scott Leese:

You're from Modesto.

Scott Leese:

I'm from Chico, California.

Scott Leese:

The name of our production company is Highway 99.

Scott Leese:

We should probably at some point

Mike Lindstrom:

Yes.

Scott Leese:

Go to the scene of the crime, the origin

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yes.

Scott Leese:

…story and do, a Highway 99

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yes.

Scott Leese:

…shoot and try to get some guests from around there.

Scott Leese:

So that's one of the things that we're thinking about.

Mike Lindstrom:

And that's a big thing that we haven't talked about.

Mike Lindstrom:

Highway 99, actually.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

At least because we're spending so much time talking about

Mike Lindstrom:

"What's Your Story," which is the guest.

Mike Lindstrom:

So it was actually on May 5th, we were technically incorporated, Scott and I,

Mike Lindstrom:

and then we were going back and forth on names of a new production company.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we said, "Well, you were from the north of the 99 side. I'm

Mike Lindstrom:

from Modesto," which is where the 99 freeway runs through.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we said, "What's this called? Highway 99."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So that's the name of our production company.

Mike Lindstrom:

And what we wanna do beyond this is to be able to do this with other people.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we've already had it.

Mike Lindstrom:

We can't name names.

Mike Lindstrom:

We've had people reach out to us already and say, Hey, we wanna do what you do."

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

"You've already done the hard stuff.

Mike Lindstrom:

We wanna mimic our own podcast in our own way.

Mike Lindstrom:

So we wanna have the likes of a Christian or Robert or have you guys

Mike Lindstrom:

be our coaches or even a co-host

Mike Lindstrom:

-" Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

"…to help us get our small business off the ground." So

Mike Lindstrom:

if that's out there, reach out to us.

Mike Lindstrom:

Highway 99 Productions is beyond "What's Your Story?" and we're looking for those

Mike Lindstrom:

kind of partnerships and relationships

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…where we can be your advisor, consultant, coach,

Mike Lindstrom:

and show you how this is done.

Mike Lindstrom:

We've done all the failing, if you will, in the first 12 months.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

But we also know what the wins are, and we know

Mike Lindstrom:

how to do it from front to back.

Scott Leese:

One, one last question from me at least before, before we

Scott Leese:

get outta here and wrap this episode.

Scott Leese:

We're still focused on Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Give me five names of dream guests in this area, in this

Scott Leese:

community that we've not got on the show yet, that we really wanna have.

Scott Leese:

Maybe somebody will see this, can reach out to them, shoulder tap them, whatnot.

Mike Lindstrom:

I have a million names, man, By the way, these are on

Mike Lindstrom:

my dry erase board I have a running list, so and it's not because we're

Mike Lindstrom:

not trying, so if you hear your name, we may have already reached out to

Mike Lindstrom:

you and you're already in the queue.

Mike Lindstrom:

Alice Cooper, and this is in no particular order.

Mike Lindstrom:

We've already reached out to Alice's people.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're looking at that, potentially for, next year.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're talking to his team there.

Mike Lindstrom:

Alice Cooper's a no-brainer.

Mike Lindstrom:

Charles Barkley would be a great one.

Mike Lindstrom:

Jim McMahon from the Chicago Bears.

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're already reaching out to his people nothing's

Mike Lindstrom:

happened yet, but I'm really good friends with, the Payton family.

Mike Lindstrom:

Walter Payton obviously passed away, and Jared Payton and his,

Mike Lindstrom:

sister, Brittany, who's local.

Scott Leese:

Mm-hmm.

Mike Lindstrom:

I would love to have JP and Brittany come in and sit on

Mike Lindstrom:

this couch and talk about the family.

Scott Leese:

Sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

Man of the year at NFL.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

That would be amazing.

Mike Lindstrom:

Kurt Warner would be a no-brainer.

Mike Lindstrom:

I know

Scott Leese:

That's five.

Scott Leese:

You, you already

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: No, I gotta

Scott Leese:

- Scott Leese: …got a huge list.

Mike Lindstrom:

I gotta throw it out to the universe, man.

Mike Lindstrom:

For his foundation, first things first, which we've done stuff with in the past.

Mike Lindstrom:

I would love to support them.

Mike Lindstrom:

Jerry Colangelo's been a mentor and a friend of mine.

Mike Lindstrom:

Jerry's, getting up there in age, and I mean that only in the way of he doesn't

Mike Lindstrom:

like to go out there and do a lot.

Mike Lindstrom:

He's very active.

Scott Leese:

Godfather.

Mike Lindstrom:

Great.

Mike Lindstrom:

He's in games, sitting courtside, but to have him break away from,

Mike Lindstrom:

Ambassadors of Compassion, which I do with him in nonprofits, to come

Mike Lindstrom:

sit like this is difficult to have him break away on the schedule.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So that's just a few that I'll throw out

Mike Lindstrom:

there off the top of my head.

Scott Leese:

It's just one of the things I was just thinking when you were reading

Scott Leese:

these names off is, I used to, before this show, this is one area that I changed.

Scott Leese:

I used to think of a particular city, name the city.

Scott Leese:

And it was like, "Oh, there's, three or four, big names there,

Scott Leese:

whatever." Fuck no, there's not.

Scott Leese:

There's

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Hundreds, if not thousands

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

In probably any particular market.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Super interesting people, super successful people,

Scott Leese:

inspirational people, whatever.

Scott Leese:

It's just so cool.

Scott Leese:

And you go like, "Damn, we've had 50 something episodes and we

Scott Leese:

didn't have any of those people

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…yet.

Scott Leese:

I'm really looking forward to that, both, deepening the relationships

Scott Leese:

and impact we have on the Phoenix and Scottsdale community, as well as Austin,

Scott Leese:

St. Louis, Kansas City, Miami, wherever else we might go at some point in time.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I have a question for you.

Mike Lindstrom:

So let's flip the script a little.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're talking about a lot of positive things.

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's talk about the challenges.

Mike Lindstrom:

For you, what's the biggest challenge?

Mike Lindstrom:

I mean, you have to come out here from Austin.

Scott Leese:

Oh, yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I get to, like, roll out of my bed, get ready

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Drive 20 minutes.

Mike Lindstrom:

What's the biggest challenge for you with the show the last 12 months?

Scott Leese:

It's 100% the travel and time commitment, because I have to come

Scott Leese:

out here, a day before, basically, right?

Scott Leese:

So I, I lose a day in terms of my work, spending time with my

Scott Leese:

kids, exercising, what whatever.

Scott Leese:

Your normal routine is just thrown off.

Scott Leese:

And then, you know, there's, there's a shoot day.

Scott Leese:

Sometimes we've had two days of shoots, then there's a travel back day.

Scott Leese:

So I lose three, sometimes four days.

Scott Leese:

So now I go back home and, it's like taking a mini vacation.

Scott Leese:

You're just, like, buried under work.

Scott Leese:

I got a million slacks, a million, you know, calls that I pushed.

Scott Leese:

Now I gotta jam them back in.

Scott Leese:

So it takes me a week at least to catch up again, I've had to adjust

Scott Leese:

my co-parenting schedule at times.

Scott Leese:

Luckily, I've got a good relationship there where there's some

Scott Leese:

flexibility and things like that.

Scott Leese:

Otherwise, probably wouldn't be able to make it happen as much.

Scott Leese:

And, traveling back and forth like that and the increased stress is

Scott Leese:

hard on anybody, but, I've got a long documented, health struggle on everything.

Scott Leese:

It's hard on, on my body sometimes, traveling that much.

Scott Leese:

So that's been the biggest piece for sure.

Mike Lindstrom:

Mm-hmm.

Scott Leese:

Is just the logistics and the impact it has on my business

Scott Leese:

and on, on my health and, ability to just do the things that I normally

Scott Leese:

would do and wanna do at home.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So let's go part two on that.

Mike Lindstrom:

A lot of people ask me, I don't know about you, they say, "So how do you do

Mike Lindstrom:

the show? is this the thing you do every week, do you and Scott?" I'm like, Guys,

Mike Lindstrom:

this is, Scott lives in a different city.

Mike Lindstrom:

It's not what you…" We've had guests coming here.

Scott Leese:

Not just different city.

Scott Leese:

I live

Scott Leese:

- Mike Lindstrom: Yeah.

Scott Leese:

…2,000 miles away.

Mike Lindstrom:

We have guests coming here go

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

"Oh, you got like a couple of these today?" So

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…tell, tell people out there, what's the reality?

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's get them behind the scenes

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Of how this goes.

Scott Leese:

Sure.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

I'll give you play by play.

Mike Lindstrom:

Let's do it.

Scott Leese:

So the average day would be, I fly out the day before,

Scott Leese:

usually get in 9:10 PM at night.

Scott Leese:

Mike picks me up, drops me to the hotel, crash out, in the studio by 7:00 AM or so.

Scott Leese:

And then we are normally recording 10 episodes.

Scott Leese:

That's 10 hours minimum.

Scott Leese:

Not to mention, we might do, little shoots like this of you and I. Mm-hmm.

Scott Leese:

Little clips specifically for social media.

Scott Leese:

Maybe rehearse a intro or an outro or, a sponsorship kind of

Scott Leese:

advertisement or whatever, right?

Scott Leese:

And then we've had times where it would come back day three for me of being

Scott Leese:

out here, where I have like a half day.

Scott Leese:

So I have maybe four people that we interview, then I scoot back

Scott Leese:

to the airport and fly home.

Scott Leese:

So these days, they're marathon days, I think it's hard for most

Scott Leese:

people to work a 10-hour day.

Scott Leese:

Try talking for 10 hours straight.

Mike Lindstrom:

Listening.

Scott Leese:

Try listening [laughing] for 10 hours straight.

Scott Leese:

We've forgot to get lunch multiple times.

Mike Lindstrom:

[laughing]

Scott Leese:

Right?

Scott Leese:

We have.

Scott Leese:

We forgot to order it.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Went the whole day without ordering anything.

Scott Leese:

We scarf something in at some point in time.

Scott Leese:

We've had a couple guests come in at the end of the day and say to us,

Scott Leese:

"You guys okay?" [laughing] You know, like, Yeah, I just splash some water

Scott Leese:

on my face real quick or something like that, you know?" So it's a lot.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

For, for those couple days, it's a lot, and then for me personally,

Scott Leese:

again, I have sort of the after effects of, fuck, I gotta catch up now.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

You know?

Scott Leese:

I don't, you don't have to deal with that, I don't think, as, as much as me,

Scott Leese:

but it's still disruptive to your normal

Mike Lindstrom:

No doubt.

Scott Leese:

Work life schedule and everything.

Mike Lindstrom:

So for the first time since I was in high school, I had

Mike Lindstrom:

a high school job, in the summer.

Mike Lindstrom:

I would drive from Modesto, California to Stockton to work for

Mike Lindstrom:

Swift Transportation, and I was a dispatcher making, summer money.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I was so tired.

Mike Lindstrom:

I was young.

Mike Lindstrom:

I was 21 years old.

Mike Lindstrom:

You go out the night before, you get up, you had to be at work every day.

Mike Lindstrom:

I remember driving my Honda Civic and like almost falling asleep at the wheel so

Mike Lindstrom:

many times because I was so effing tired.

Mike Lindstrom:

I haven't had that happen until the last shoot.

Scott Leese:

I remember you told me that.

Mike Lindstrom:

From my 20-minute

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…drive from the studio to my home, I was so depleted.

Mike Lindstrom:

I remember going down Scottsdale Road.

Mike Lindstrom:

I hit, Indian School, which is like only five miles from my house.

Mike Lindstrom:

And I was like, I have a Tesla." I was kinda self-driving or it was self-driving

Mike Lindstrom:

a little bit and I was just nodding off and I'm like, "Whoa." I haven't

Mike Lindstrom:

had that ever since I was a teenager.

Scott Leese:

Huh.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I knew this is something

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: That was a long day.

Mike Lindstrom:

Four or five times six times a year.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

But that's how depleted I was.

Mike Lindstrom:

And so I know for you it's that on steroids

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…because you're two hours different with the

Mike Lindstrom:

health stuff, you're staying in a hotel, you're out of your pattern.

Mike Lindstrom:

I get to go home to my wife tonight and my kids and be at my home.

Mike Lindstrom:

You don't.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I appreciate it, man.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

I, number one, the, the vision you've had with us together

Mike Lindstrom:

and we haven't had any fighting.

Mike Lindstrom:

And we have arguments and debates around how we wanna do things creatively,

Mike Lindstrom:

but after 12 months of partnership and starting a corporation, we don't

Mike Lindstrom:

argue about anything like money, you're like, yeah, let's do it.

Mike Lindstrom:

We'll invest in that.

Mike Lindstrom:

There's never been like

Mike Lindstrom:

- Scott Leese: Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

…true contention.

Mike Lindstrom:

And to me, that's, not just a, testament to our friendship, but the kind of things

Mike Lindstrom:

that we both see in the bigger picture.

Mike Lindstrom:

We're willing to put any kind of divide or dif difference because we see it for

Mike Lindstrom:

the guests, the responsibility of the sponsors and the future we wanna create.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

Whether it's going on the road or whatever.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I just wanna say thank you for me

Scott Leese:

Yeah, thank you.

Mike Lindstrom:

And the, and the belief that you have in me, bro, and

Mike Lindstrom:

let's continue making this happen.

Scott Leese:

Been a great year one.

Mike Lindstrom:

Yeah, man.

Scott Leese:

All right.

Mike Lindstrom:

So I'll let you sign off, acknowledge everybody

Mike Lindstrom:

we'd have and do the thing.

Scott Leese:

Yeah.

Scott Leese:

All right everybody, hope you enjoyed a little bit of the,

Scott Leese:

behind the scenes stuff, the What's Your Story podcast year one.

Scott Leese:

Scott Leese:

Scott Leese:

Scott Leese:
